Epi Les Paul?

I have an epiphone les paul and the stock pickups do not have the characteristics im looking for. (Bridge pup only. my neck pup is never used) I would like to sound better when distorted. I want output. i dont want active pickups cos i dont want the hassle of powering them so passve only please. What do you guys suggest.

I found a few possibilities including, duncan distortion trembucker, duncan custom, dimarzio super distortion and the dimarzio evolution bridge.

I play guns nd roses, metalica, nirvana, nikelback (one song), iron maiden

(BRIGHTER CLEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

 :chairfall

btw im doing this for a m8 cos he has no internet atm. (I still remain an official les paul hater)

Re: Epi Les Paul?

Welcome Kyle! Sounds like you need a Duncan Custom to me, but a Distortion may not be a bad choice either. The things you list cover a lot of ground. No one pup will cover it all. The Custom is the Seymour Duncan PAF on Steroids. It should do many of those ok/well. The highs will be there as well as the lows!

Re: Epi Les Paul?

If you are more in the Guns N Roses stuff go with the custom,
if you're playing more Maiden and Nirvana go with the JB-Modell
--> Kurt Cobain switched to the JB Model after Nevermind!

The JB Modell has the better clean sound.

Re: Epi Les Paul?

I dont like ceramic magnets so I went with the JB in my lester...depends on what amp you are playing...

Re: Epi Les Paul?

The Custom will rock all of those styles, but I find it doesn't clean up all that great. Throw a 59 or Pearly Gates in the neck as well, and you're all set.

Re: Epi Les Paul?

I recommend the C5 for you Epi LP. Very versatile and can cover alot of styles.... its heavy and crunchy and cleans up very well.

Re: Epi Les Paul?

Yeah the C5 might just do the trick. It sounds impressive in my friend's Ibanez Prestige. Fairly crunchy, but still nice & open.

Re: Epi Les Paul?

i'd recommend the custom series ... get one and then get the two other magnet types and swap them for yourself to see which fits the bill .... start with the custom ... i think it will sound good forthe type of tones he seems to be after
