Epi SG G-400

Re: Epi SG G-400

I absolutely love the C8 in the bridge of an SG. The Pearly Gates in the neck really goes well with the C8.

Sounds good to me. Pretty simple and cheap to replace the nut. You might try it with the JB before changing pups. I find that the JB with 250k vol pot or with an A2 mag sounds pretty good. But in any case, if it's in pretty good condition it's not a bad price with the case and shipping included.

Re: Epi SG G-400

I have a LP and a SG with Mean 90s and they sound awesome. I love that P-90 sound in both the SG and the LP.

Re: Epi SG G-400

There is one on reverb for $250 shipped with a hardshell case, JB bridge, and a cosmetically broken nut.

What do yall think?

Well, look at it this way...the case is probably easily worth $50 and the JB is also. That means that the guitar itself only costs $150 shipped. Who wouldn't do that deal?

Re: Epi SG G-400

Guitars are individuals.

I had a Gibson SG at the same time as a G-400. The tone was more open with the Gibby. The Epi had that constricted fat midrange that works really well perhaps for heavier musical styles. The Gibby sounded more like what the traditional SG would be expected to sound like.

All depends on what you want.....and a different individual epi could sound more Gibson like perhaps.

I've got several Epi SGs and a couple Gibson SGs and I prefer the tone of any of the Epis over Gibson.

Another case in point - a guy in the Historics section on MLP posted a NGD.....his aim was to find a historic that sounded like a LP from the 80's or early 90's - that thicker tone that vintage LP's are not known for. As you can imagine, historics are trying after that combed almost Tele like vibe that the real vintage ones have. So essentially he was after the 'dog' historic, the one most other buyers would have rejected for sounding flat and dull.

So there are plenty of people about that don't want what Gibson gives......but sometimes its amusing to see their outrage that spending more money doesn't magically give you a tone that is guaranteed to be your best ever.
