hey,
i have got an epiphone explorer, it is korina wood, i want a bridge and neck pickup and have looked at the tone guides but am not sure, i play metal (metallica, iron maiden that sort of thing) i am looking at maybe a 59 or an invader in the bridge. any suggestions.

thanks,
Dave.

Re: Epiphone Explorer

For that type of stuff you might wanna try a JB, or a Duncan Distortion. Good 80's rock tone, and apparently they nail Metallica right on!

Re: Epiphone Explorer

Dimebucker... metal! metal! metal! but, I'm selling mine, it's too much metal for my tastes these days...

Re: Epiphone Explorer

Definately the Duncan Distortion... the invader is meant for bright sounding guitars, but korina is tonally similar to mahogany except not as thumpy.

Re: Epiphone Explorer

Do you like to get distortion from the pups or the amp? The DD is very "gainy". Perhaps the Custom or the JB would be better suited if your amp has lots of gain. As far as the neck, the 59' is an obvious choice. Good Luck in your search for Ultimate Tone!
