I have a dimarzio PAF7 set in my Epiphone les paul 7 string. It has a ceramic magnet so it can do metal tones, but it's medium output so it's good for classic tones as well.
The custom would be good unless the guitar is naturally dark sounding. Pretty much anything by duncan will be an improvement over the stock pickups.
