Epiphone Guitars on backorder

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

Is it possible they are new for this year and wont be shipped till after NAMM?

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

The black cherry and the blue are both in stock currently. Maybe only certain colors are back ordered.

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

A beautiful guitar I would say it is worth the wait.

$850 for a Gibson clone ... Buy a real Les Paul my friend

:drive:

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

You must live in a different universe than I do.. a Gibson LP with a similar finish and specs is around $3200.

I think they just meant you can get a real Gibson for that amount, without implying the same model specs etc.

The tributes are pretty good

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

Epiphones have a much better cost/value ratio so much as you don't care what is written on the head stock. But if you want to pay $2000 extra for a brand name and crappy QC, who am I to stop you?

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

Yeah that's true Epi QC is notoriously top notch :smack:

Get what works for you

That Aquamarine LP is a beauty fwiw

I have one Gibson LP already and I love it. It is a workhorse and really great. I want a second guitar similar to it that is affordable and similar in style. If I could afford another exact model of what I have in a different finish, I would, but I also want a cheaper "practice guitar" that is similar to my main LP. One day I'll probably own several Les Pauls because they seem to be my favorite type of guitar to play and I love the way they look.

I wouldn't buy either of those Epiphone guitars for those prices, but I just happen to like those finishes in particular and noticed they are on backorder for several months. To me, this is interesting because I'm surprised there is enough demand for Epiphone guitars to necessitate a reserve list. You can buy a "real" Gibson for that amount, but come on.. you know it will be a studio or some weird 1 pickup LP or something that really doesn't hit home.

On Epiphone QC: yikes! I've played a lot of various Epiphones in guitar stores and the quality of production varies greatly for each guitar. Some guitars they make are truly players and are finished well, and then there is the rest of the guitars that slip by QC with horrendous finishing, setups, questionable crafting, poor electronics.

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

The first one is a special production run exclusively for Sweetwater, so perhaps that particular batch hasn't come through yet.

It is a pretty burst; blue & green is a great combination. I've been mildly obsessed with the PRS Laguna Glow guitars for a couple of years.

Re: Epiphone Guitars on backorder

This is typical for Guitar mfgs.... sell the old models until they are gone at Christmas season, New prototypes for NAMM that ship in the spring if you are lucky. -So January is a low inventory season.

$850 for a poor chinese Gibson clone ...

I picked up a used Epiphone LP for a pretty good deal. It is in immaculate condition. Here's my thoughts:

The Epiphone is finished very well and a solid instrument. The electronics feel cheap and the finish/neck feel cheap too, however. On its own, the guitar sounds decent unplugged (no fret buzz, decent sustain). Plugged in, it sounds like an Epiphone LP... a bit muddy, dark, undefined. I don't think any sort of pickup/electronics swap will help that because I'm pretty sure it is a tonewood issue and possibly a finishing materials issue as well.

Compared side by side with my Gibson (which I know isn't fair, but this is what they are supposed to imitate, right??) Les Paul Traditional model, the difference is night and day. My Gibson is very much more responsive and resonant while unplugged. The neck and all finishing materials feel more luxurious (although my particular guitar has a couple finishing imperfections). The frets are better, electronics are better as well. Hands down my Gibson is a vastly superior instrument. The lesson for me (and others that may be in the same curiousity boat) - just get the Gibson.. do whatever you must do, save money, work an extra job, skip fancy dinners for two months and only eat cans of soup and PB&Js.

Whether I'll keep this Epiphone or not is undecided for me. I wasn't digging the neck so that may be the deciding factor for me.
