+1. It's also hit or miss in mahogany. It was made for bright woods, which is where it excels.

I have the jb/jazz set in my epi lp. I think it cleans up well. But I don't like super cleans. I like a little edge to my cleans. You can lower the pickup and get it cleaner. It's all preference but keep in mind, if you buy from a dealer and don't like it, there is a 21 day exchange policy. You're gonna have to try it to know.

sh4 will be very good with basswood (because the wood will make some clean sound)



if sh4 was not good for crunch, i wouldn't be with all esp with mahogany!!


i thought only sh6 was not good for crunch and not sh4

crunch is important but i think guitar can have crunch with volume too

i wait for my guitar and i will try sh4 but the real problem is that a lot of gibson's pickups are very far from 16k outpout of sh4
and i don't know if sh4 is not better for distortion than all vintage gibson's pickups

Brightest I played were the Jazz, Screamin' Demon and BKP Riff Raffs.

with distortion, there is some les paul sound!!!

i read that some people put orange drops and pots? for a better sound
i don't know that

pickups may be good (alnico II epiphone) and someone said that they were like classic 57 but not as expensive as these or sh1
i have old sh1 and sh6

Well, I'd suggest the Seth Lovers for a good clean sound, but unless you get a custom version they're all non splittable as stock.

Nobody probably cares at this point, but 4 conductors Seth Lovers are easy to come by http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...onductor&_nkw=seth+lover+4+conductor&_sacat=0

I have a set in an Epi Sheraton with push/pull series/parallel. I think because they are low output pickups to begin with, the parallel mode isn't too exciting, and it really pays off more if you have hotter humbuckers.

my guitar has a dark sound so, i must find clean tones but bluesy too (i like the sounds of gary moore, santana, john sykes, sambora, peter green)

i have classic 57 by epiphone and classic 57 by epiphone too

i think that i will try a classic 57 (by gibson) for the warm tone in neck
i think alnico II is the best for my guitar

for the bridge i want harmonics, sustain, feedback

seth lovers or other vintage pickups have microphonic problems (not wax potted sometimes) and not 4 conductors (sometimes)

there is the alnico aph-1 too
i had a sh1 but i like creamy and warm tone of my classic 57 and high MIDS (important)

for the bridge position: i don't know

i use a floyd rose
i want wax potted pickups

my last decision is classic 57 ( even if a lot of people don't like it here) +burstbucker 3
(because i don't find BB PRO with 4 conductors)

i thought about the sh2
