I'm planning on turning my Epi Les Paul Standard into a rock monster. I think I'm going to go with an Invader in the neck position and a Duncan Custom in the bridge position. I just want this thing to be totally dedicated to rockin'. I also have a '91 Charvel Super Strat with a JB in the bridge & two single coils that I can't remember which model they are. That'll be my warm guitar for more mellow styles. What do you think? And also, can I use the HB covers from the Les Paul for the new pickups, or do they have to come with the pickup itself? I like the look & tone of the covers. I just move the pickup a little closer to the strings & it's real nice like that.

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Mods

Hi and welcome!

A custom is a very good idea in the bridge of your Les Paul. However, I don't think an invader would be a good idea. I'd be tempted to say that an invader in the neck of a paul would turn it into a mud-fest (but not the cool kind with girls and stuff ;)). I could be wrong since I never tried an invader neck but some other buckers might be better suited for the job.

I don't think the covers from your original pick-ups would fit over duncans, you're better off ordering covered pick-ups (but I also highly doubt that an invader can be ordered with a cover, considering the large pole pieces...).

In my opinion, a jazz, '59 or pearly gates neck would be a great match in order to keep this axe a rockin' machine...

Good luck!

Welcome!

I've got an Epi LP Standard Plus. It had a Custom Custom in the bridge but that's been replaced with a Custom Shop pickup. A Jazz is in the neck. Any of the Customs would do well in the bridge position. A Pearly Gates, Jazz or Alnico II Pro are the best choices for the neck IMO. The covers from the stock pickups will not fit. I tried. ;) You'll need to either order them already covered or get covers and have them put on.

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Mods

Fitting the Epi covers to the Seymours is problematic due to pole spacing/alloys/screw holes sizes.

Although the Invader is an intriguing choice for a neck pickup, it is not a popular choice in any case by itself. I like Aceman's idea of the Distortion Set a lot!

Welcome to the board! If you can give us some idea of who your fave guitar artists are, and the amp you have...you will get honest opinions for the most part.

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Mods

Hello!
After I've done a lot research,I tend to put in my Epi Custom plus;
1.Alnico II pro in neck for nice cleans and
2.59' in bridge for nasal, bark Gibson sound for leads and heavy rock riffs...

Any suggestions and comments on that?

I don't want to put high output pickup like JB or CC, think I'll get more aggression/articulation/bite from 59',and my pedal will do all high gain work...

THNX:)

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Mods

I'm pretty much set on what i'll be putting in. Looks like a '59 in the neck and either the invader or Duncan Custom in the bridge. No covers. Thanks folks!
