Epiphone Les Paul Pickup Upgrade

Hey! I decided to throw some Seymour Duncan Distortions in my LP Custom, but its wired... lets say pretty modern -> http://i.imgur.com/XUp1dUk.jpg

I would like to keep the pots like they are, is it possible to cut up this (http://i.imgur.com/WCBb7ei.jpg, http://i.imgur.com/jN2CvrW.jpg) and solder the wires of the new Distortion Pickup (red onto where red is, green where green is, etc) onto it and therefore use the same Pots? theoretically it could work, i think. i dont care about the coil tap, so I'm not bothered if it doesnt work anymore if i do this mod.
best regards, hope you guys can help me out :)

Edit: i dont know what the pots are, but its a Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro, made in 2014

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Pickup Upgrade

I've got a bunch of newer Epis and just solder the plugs from the factory pickups to the new ones- everything works as factory as far as factory splits and such. Same color code for Epiphone pickups as shown for Gibson

Black wire from the Duncan pickup to the (small) red wire on the plug
White wire from the Duncan pickup to the white wire on the plug
Red wire from the Duncan pickup to the green wire on the plug
Green wire from the Duncan pickup to the black wire on the plug
Bare ground from the Duncan pickup to the red or black larger gauge wire on the plug

I try to keep the leads as long as possible on the old pickups but stagger the individual splices, individually heat shrink the spliced wires then a piece of larger heat shrink over it all

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Pickup Upgrade

I've done similar things when in a hurry before. Go for it.

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Pickup Upgrade

It is possible to buy the block connectors. Result - tidy and entirely reversible pickup changes.

I did it. Sad to see the beautiful gold covers go, but those sound so much better, I'm in love, finally my LP is perfect to me :)
thanks to everyone again!

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Pickup Upgrade

You "can" get covers if you want...

I think it looks great,tho!

:headbang:

Oh yeah you can get the gold covers.......for a pretty penny. I prefer uncovered on certain applications and covered on others. Depends on guitar and what look I'm going for. image.jpg
What would you do with these pups? Covered or uncovered zebra/reverse zebra? That's what I'm torn between now. Lol.
