epiphone les paul's gettin jacked up

g'day folks....looking to put some p/ups in to cover anything from dimmu borgir, lamb of god, metallica to RHCP,EVH!!! SRV, older blues, jazzy clean stuff...
im thinking, high output in the bridge, and moderate neck...both with coil taps.
ive been thinking JB,Distortion or Invader in the bridge
then a jazz or 59 in the neck
for the high gain stuff, i'm looking for a darker kind of sound, big on the low mids..
for cleans, just something yummy and fendery i suppose...
amp is jcm2000 tsl60, with a 1960a 412 with G12-T75s

To cover that kind of ground I think the Jazz/JB set would work best out of those listed. Its an all around great set and the JB slays in a Paul. It will definitely rock. Myself, I wouldnt bother with the coil splits. Just full on buckers and combined in the middle position. Nice and simple.

yeah, um you need about 3 guitars to cover all that. jb/pg. or jb jazz for sure.

Yep, hard to cover that much ground with one gat. How about a P-Rails neck with a distortion bridge? Will get a lot of versatility from the prails and the bridge will cover the heavier stuff.

lol, why dont i simplify my priorities..also,note i have a jackson rr24, to take care of any MEGA_BR00TALZ
i play metal mainly, but i'm a lead player in a blues band at school (we play tunes like messin with the kid, gimme on reason, proud mary,ect...) so i need some really nice clean sounds, and i play covers sets of 60's songs with my pop...we're talking the band,the doors, the animals, clapton, dylan ect..
so, i def. need some killer cleans. aswell as something to handle LoG, Metallica.
so...ya,i dont need excellent,pristine,untouchable clean sounds.. but they have to be able to cut it....and when time comes to deliver some face melting riffery...y'know..
most of my original stuff with my band is like this..very..versatile,i guess..
good cleans,good distortion.....i know, i wont top notch of either in the same guitar...but, theres my story...

P-Rails.

Humbucker mode in series is like 16k...a lot hotter than most people need, definitely more than hot enough for metal.

In parallel, the humbucker supposedly sounds like a PAF. Good for cleans and vintage sounds.

In split P90 mode, IT'S A FRIGGIN P90. P90s sound better than anything else.

And there's a Strat-style single coil on it too.

You want to be able to do everything, I'd get the most diverse pickups available y'know?

P-Rails, neck and bridge, I dunno how you'd want to control the pickups' modes but i'd just use push-pulls.

wow,those p-rails seem like great pickups...reviews ive found seem to say they're not quite as hot as something like a JB though...maybe i'll go with a p-rails in the neck, and a JB/invader/distortion in the bridge..

well what kinda amp are you runnin? i mean 16k is enough to get metal tones out of my Fender when it's cranked up all the way, I don't think you'd need anything heavier than P-Rails' series mode.

but i mean you gotta follow your heart.

Yeah, just get the P-Rails and a booster if you really need that much gain.

im running a JCM2000TSL60, so i've got gain on tap...but i definetely needs loads of gain..i dont wanna run into the problem i have know of getting everything cranked, and still lacking saturation and sustain for playing something like gizmachi or as i lay dying..
i think i'll also take this over to my buddies @ UG..see what the verdict is there

a) You need at least 2 guitars - or be willing to compromise a lot on many sounds
b) If you have that much gain available, I'm going to suggest a basic set of 59's or PG's
c) The P-rails does sound like a good swiss army pup....might work for you.

Maybe PG neck, P-rails.

Dark with lots of low mids? Forget the JB. Fendery neck tones? Forget finding those on a short scale mahogany set neck guitar.

The TSL is capable of providing more gain than most are ever going to need. The JCM2000 series amps also take pedals well, so adding an overdrive or distortion pedal may be a better way of hitting the amp's front end.

For the most versatility from a Les Paul I'd look at a Custom bridge. It's plenty hot, retains its clarity under gain, and for a hot ceramic pickup it backs off fairly well. It even splits well. In the neck there are a lot of pickups that match up well with the Custom, the Jazz, 59, and PG, being the usual favorites.

Even with my Alnico II Pro I can get it to sound metal. If sustain is a problem add a pedal, like a Boss DS-1.
