Epiphone Negative Series

Re: Epiphone Negative Series

I dig 'em. All of 'em.

I'd love to see a band play these all dressed in stormtrooper outfits!

I like it, but I'll agree with what was said about the headstocks not being negative. I'd prefer it if the headstocks were also white so the trussrod cover (that could remain black) and the tuners would contrast with the headstock more.

If Gibson did it I'd consider buying one.

Re: Epiphone Negative Series

I think the "negative" guitars look cool. I wouldn't buy an Epi only because I'm discriminating enough to feel the Korea all over it, but it's a cool idea and pretty sharp-looking.

I WISH they were still made in Korea! Try China.

I played the SG Extensively today, I DEFINITELY want one. They are one-piece maple necks, wonderfully setup, with US pickups, and they look beautiful in person. Apparently the V flew out the door the second it hit the floor. The Explorer looks UGLY as sin, but the Les Paul, SG and EB-3 look great.

Two observations:

1) The body on the SG is light. I mean REALLY light. I wonder if it's mahogany or not.

2) The fretboards are not finished like a 50's style fender neck which is my preference, but it's not a dealbreaker.

Re: Epiphone Negative Series

I can dig them. The seem pretty cool!

I was tempted to pickup that all maple SG Gibson has out. I would love to have a Gibby with a maple board.

Bad@ss....I can only imagine walking into a club and seeing a group of stormtroopers rockin out to the Imperial March

Re: Epiphone Negative Series

Well here are my thoughts. I think they do look great and that I have to give them points for trying something new. I keep going back and forth about the headstock. I like it as is but then think it should be just maple. can't wait to try them to see how they are.

Re: Epiphone Negative Series

I cant wrap my head around those huge black block inlays. If they were dots I think I'd like them better. I do agree about the Stormtroopers thought. That would be killer to see them in formation playing those guitars. lol

Well, Fender uses the exact same black block inlays on their "big block" stuff like the Geddy Lee.

Personally, I think they look killer. The V and Explorer are sadly missing them, especially since they are so much more expensive.

Well, until you see them in person and/or play them, you really can't HAVE an opinion.

Round objects!

'Fess up anybody out there who has never oggled a guitar brochure and imagined what it might be like to have a go on some multi-thousand dollar guitar that you know you cannot possibly afford. That is an opinion. (Obviously, not an informed one.)

Countrary to all logic, the appearance of a guitar is as important to many purchasers as the sound and playing experience. It shouldn't be but it is. Hence, if some world famous guitarist dumped the guitar previously associated with him/her and toured with, say, a 1970s Fender Starcaster, a lot of punters would suddenly reach the conclusion that the Fender Starcaster is the guitar for them without ever having tried one.

Don't believe me? Look what happened to fibreglass guitars after Jack White adopted them.

P. S. - The idea of a band in Star Wars outfits reminded me of John Cale, circa "Guts".
