Epiphone Nighthawk RI?

25's Nemesis
Anyone own/play one? I've been in love with the Gibby version for a while, and the Epi RI seems like an easily obtainable alternative. Anyone have any experience with these guitars? I'm looking at one in trans-black.

Thanks!

Re: Epiphone Nighthawk RI?

I almost got one. I really like the 3 different PU's, that should be on more guitars. The body shape was a little weird for me, guess I'm too used to LP's.

Re: Epiphone Nighthawk RI?

I have been considering one off and on for a while. I like the pickups a lot. When I played one though, I didn't care for the neck. It was a bit wide for my tastes. It sounded really good, though, in the limited testing I've done.

Wide neck? Wide nut width but having a shallow front to back thickness, or was it just a baseball bat?

Re: Epiphone Nighthawk RI?

I have not been able to play one, but I want one so bad. Honey burst with that mahogany back. So nice. I had requested a local guitar center ship one in for me to try, but they didn't, so I bought my Godin instead for 100 less online. I'm pretty happy with it, but I keep thinking I'd have liked the Nighthawk more. I'd trade my Hamer for one in a heartbeat.

Epi's been moving away from thick necks and been putting their slim 'D' shaped neck on more models in the last few years (like the P-90 SG Special and LP Tribute). It's wide, side-to-side, but thin top to bottom. Too wide for small hands, and too shallow for big hands. Don't know what their plan was. I don't like it at all, but obviously some guys must. Nighthawks would be more likely to have one of those than a baseball bat type.

I have an Alleykat that has a neck like you describe.I kind of like it. It's almost like a fast acoustic neck.

I'm sure a lot of guys do. For me, they don't fill my hand. I don't need a baseball bat neck, but I like them to have some girth, especially on the higher frets. It just don't like it when they're thin up there.
