Epiphone pickups: is a mod worth it?

As said in the title...
Is there somebody who tried to mod them?
I don't expect to obtain a "custom shop-level" set from them, obv, but since I changed pickup on my Sheraton I was wondering if I could do something with them...

Re: Epiphone pickups: is a mod worth it?

What kind of music do you play and what kind of tone are you striving to obtain?

Re: Epiphone pickups: is a mod worth it?

It depends on which Epi pickup it is, honestly.

I did a mag swap and wax removal on the old neck pickup in the Epi LP Custom I used to have. The pickup was week and muddy. Oddly, I dropped an A8 in there and it not only beefed up the output but added clarity.

I would say it is worth it to gain experience on modding them...

Re: Epiphone pickups: is a mod worth it?

Are you talking about modding the pickups themselves or modding the guitar by changing the pickups? It is a bit of a pain to even get to the wiring on a Sheraton, but a great thing to learn how to do. Also, pickups can really transform that guitar.

No it's not. Use a long plastic coated wire or aquarium tubing to pull the neck tone pot back thru the body and into place; forceps in the F hole can lift the other 3 pots in place. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to get all the pots back in an F hole guitar.

Ok, I never expected this feedback ahahah

I was talking about the pickups themselves, I've already modded the guitar a bit and I also changed the pickups, that's why I wanted to experiment with them (anyway I didn't find it particularly hard-) :)

Weeell, all I can say is they are Alnico Classic Humbuckers ehm...
On the bottom they say "Dot: bridge/neck - LP: neck" (and this surely is the reason bridge and neck volumes are so unbalanced......)

What kind of music do you play and what kind of tone are you striving to obtain?

I play many genres... but basically I'm into alternative rock, a bit of punk, a little of metal (yeah, even with a semi hollow, has a cool sound for some songs ahah), indie rock, psych rock... sometimes even a little of jazz, I could go on and on ahahah
I'd like to have more clarity and maybe even a little more treble

Thank you all, guys! :))
