Epiphone SG......

Re: Epiphone SG......

I played a couple this past weekend and they weren't bad. I actually liked them better than the Epi LP's that were also in the store.

It ok but i like the epi iommi SG alot better.
I've played that guitar and I must say its the only guitar that has righteous pups stock. The best sig model I've played for the price.

I'd check Ebay if your lookin for an SG. You could get one of those epi's for alot less or even a real gibby for that sale price. Nice guitars tho.....

Re: Epiphone SG......

There are better guitars for that price range, you could even snag a Gibson Faded SG for that much.

Re: Epiphone SG......

The SG was the first guitar I ever lusted after. The Gibsons are usually pretty sweet, but I've never played an Epi that I liked.

Re: Epiphone SG......

I actually like the Vintage G400 out of all of them that I've played...pick up an old catalog and they were like 380 bucks.

Re: Epiphone SG......

I just got an Epi/LP standard today for the same price ($100 less than the M'Friend website. at the Guitar Center). Hey, if it "floats your boat", GET IT!

I was looking for the EPI/Iommi SG with the GIBSON/Iommi pickups, and it seems that for all the super-cool extras (the "cross" fretboard inlays to the twelth fret, and its black all over...if you like all black). NO ONE had one in stock, so I cast that choice aside, as I am picky and I NEED to use 3 of my senses (leaving out smell and taste) to experience a guitar.

Just for Sh*ts and giggles, try an EMG powered LTD! These pickups are head and shoulders above the pickups in my Epi LP (My EPI/LP is craploads better built)! Those ESP LTD's sound great (!!!)...totally smoking, and on a different level if you can get over the generic/black hardware presentation. Plus, the guys at the Sam Ash in my neck of the woods actually tuned these suckers before I got my hands on them.

Have you tried an ESP/LTD Viper with the EMGs?

Re: Epiphone SG......

the G-400 deluxe is the worse eip sg. The best is the vintage, then the custom. None of them really do it for me though. You can get a SG special for that price.

Re: Epiphone SG......

where can i find a vintage or custom?

keep in mind im a college student so i dont have the luxury of buying $1000 and up guitars. ive never even had a gibson or even played one, so its not like im looking for an amazing guitar

Re: Epiphone SG......

nevermind i see the vintage, but i hate the worn brown and worn cherry
(i know i know). i cant find a custom anywhere. and where have you seen a gibson special for under 500 bucks?

Re: Epiphone SG......

I've seen a gibson special for $900 AUD, so thats about $650 american. The vintage plays better then the gibson special anyways. The custom comes in white and it has 3 humbuckers. They are all under $1000 AUD, so that means under $700 American. i love the look of the vintage, but if you dont fair enough. The best sounding and playing is the vintage then the custom then the deluxe. They are all good for the price but i prefer yamaha guitars in that price range. The deluxe is good but the other 2 are better, thats for sure. All 3 are pretty common guitars, not rare like godins or anything, you should be able to get a shop to get them in. Or ring around your area and see if any shops have stock so you can try one. Good luck.

Re: Epiphone SG......

Every epiphone I've seen or bought has been overpriced for what you get. The regular lines guitars are functional and in my personal experience they're nice once you invest in new pickups and a setup (and possible new tuners and a new nut, it depends on the guitar), but I ended up paying way too much at the end of it. I guess it depends on what you want it for.

Before you go for the epiphone, can I recomend you look at godin?

Better woods, better finish, better tuners, better pickups. I've only ever owned epiphone electrics, so it's not like I don't appreciate epiphones for what they have to offer.

Re: Epiphone SG......

Godin is an awsome brand. The freeway series are good. you can find them for about $1100 AUD, so thats like $750 american or so. I don't buy epiphones, but my friend who loves gibsons (but can't afford them) buys epiphones and in my opinion he gets ripped most of the time.

Yeah. I mean, look at Agile. You can one at something like half the price of an Epiphone, what is all that money going to?

Just make sure you get the active ones, the passives in my V suck balls, the Duncan designs in my 7 completely wipe the floor with them. Hz = asstastic.
