Ok, so i recently bought myself an epiphone thunderbird iv(bass), did some drawings on it, mounted a killswitch etc. But now i am looking for a new set of pickups, i like passive ones, but so far, i have only found Emg thunderbird pickups, are those the only ones? Anyone know about any other company that makes those?

Re: Epiphone t-bird

Bartolini makes a direct T-Bird replacement.

A well known German winder called David Barfuss makes a nice updated set for the 60ies oringinals. here you go http://www.barfuss-pickups.de/page7.html

And a quite unkown US guy named Lollar:biglaugh:

Haha, ok, not quite done yet. Bought it just last week. Did all the drawings with permanent markers, then was just spraying it down with clearcoat layer after layer, last layer dryed today, so not polished or put together yet, but i can show you what i have got right now, will post more pics when im completely done if anyone will be interested!

Re: Epiphone t-bird

I play in a metal band though. So i think pickups with much treble and lots of low mids and bass would fit my playing style

Re: Epiphone t-bird

Haha, thanks! it was hell drawing those things tough, everything i touched with sweaty hands got washed away, but i like the result. :)

Re: Epiphone t-bird

Ok, thanks, bartolini seems to be good, but i cant find any reviews or sound clips on those, and nothing about how many screws they use, the thunderbird uses 3, never modified those so not sure if possible

Re: Epiphone t-bird

Slipknot artwork desecrates the guitar and is an insult to the legacy of Iron Maiden. Very cool, otherwise.

Re: Epiphone t-bird

Haha. Yea i thought about that when i was done with it, but slipknot is one of my favorite bands so i just wanted to have it there, :)

Re: Epiphone t-bird

Yeah, phase II seems good, but anyone knows if it is just possible to just drill new holes for the pickups? Never done that before and not sure if that will work...

Yes you can drill new holes/routing for the pickups--people do it all the time (for example to make single coils into humbuckers.) If you've never done that before then I would suggest practicing on a couple throw a way boards before digging into your guitar or have a luthier do it for you.

What pickups are you trying to fit into your T-Bird?

Re: Epiphone t-bird

Reanimating the thread momentarily: You might check out SGD pickups. He makes a pickup to fit the Epi Tbirds, with the truncated corners. And his pickups are absolute tone monsters. You'll probably need to email him if his web store is still down.

Re: Epiphone t-bird

My neck-thru Epi Thunderbird came stock with a set of Gibson ceramic T-bird PU's. They have a nicely aggressive sound to them.
