Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

Probably not. I remember looking at those and thinking they were cool. Somebody told me they're laminates of Korina wood. I'm not sure how thick the laminate is or whats under it. In this case, I think you get what you pay for. If you got one cheap for used, it might be fun. They do look cool.

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

I belive it was some one here at the forum that had the "korina" epi mad out of agathis...
I think the wood under the korina laminate can be pretty much anything.

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

Tonally, an original Destroyer eats alive, let me say, any EX-shaped axes below the level of an ultramagnificent custom shop Gibson korina Explorer...

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

I think Hamer sometimes makes Korina Explorers. The USA ones would be worth a look. Not sure about the Hamer Slammers, though, but they can be had for low dough. I'd like to have a Destroyer, though.

That would be me.

It could be bleached mahogany, it could be bleached agathis. Someone identified as agathis on harmony central. It sounds good though for what I do with it, but I'm using it for metal. Very ballanced tonnally except it's a bit dark, but it does have a superdistortion in it.

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

I didn't realize the quality of law suit era Ibanez copies was so good. I always thought of them as the 1970's equivalent to Epiphone or Squire. Now it makes sense why they are so coveted and expensive.

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

if you get a late 70's or early to mid 80's destroyer II, you're set. it bloody kicks ass. with a set of dimarzios or duncans it'll eat you alive!

gawd DAYM! i want one

if someone has a metallic (or normal) red or cherry sunburst one to sell, give me a shout

the lawsuit ibanez gibson copies are as close to the real thing you'll get in a copy

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

Does anyone know how epi can get away with lying about the woods all the time?
Seems like you never get the wood u are suposed to get.

Re: Epiphone vs. vintage Ibanez

I have an Epi Korina Explorer. Sounds good to me. I have PAF-style pups in it. As for the Agathis thing, I dunno, but I CAN hear the Korina in there and it's very sweet.

I would go with an Ibanez Destroyer. Then again, I AM an Ibanez whore :) :laugh2:
