I prefer the Epi LP custom. Somehow the Epi SG's I played never felt right to me.
I don't know about the CC but the JB is awesome for old metal.

The important thing is, which one do YOU prefer.
Just go to a guitar store and A/B them, see which one you like better in feel. Also when buying an Epiphone, examine the guitar REALLY good before buying, especially the frets.
+1!

well i have basically narrowed my search down to 2 guitars, the epiphone les paul standard and the epiphone G-400(which one do you prefer), i WILL be swapping stock pup's for seymours, also what is a better pickup for iron maiden, sabbath-y tones, i am looking at the JB and the Custom custom, thanks.

I have the G-400 myself and I guess I lucked out and got a real good one.

For what you're aiming at, definitely get some strong pups in there (maybe the Gibson Tony Iommi signature ones if they're sold separately) and MOST DEFINITELY change the tuning pegs, those Klusons are CRAP, although I have noticed some of the more recent Epi's are putting Grover's on.

Re: Epiphone's

thanks for all the suggestions people, i am gonna go with the les paul, and does any one know, would a peavey classic with a GOOD crunch pedal work for maiden/sabbath/zeppelin/ozzy(older stuff ex:rhoads, jake e lee). thank you all.

P.S what is a good pedal for the music i play?, dont want any boss or digitech stuff, something difernt.

Re: Epiphone's

Peavey Classic 30s are great amps for blues, rock and Classic rock.. You'll need a pedal for metal , but other wise....

Of any of my axes, I keep coming back to my Epi Ace Frehley. Always delivers and plays effortlessly. I want a Epi LP Custom. Ive played several lately and they are quite impressive. Honestly, the last few Gibby Studios Ive played have left me unimpressed. No bashing, I just cant justify the double pricetag..

Re: Epiphone's

well that settles it, boxing day= new guitar epiphone les paul :headbang:, unfortunatly still need a good crunch pedal, suggestions?

Re: Epiphone's

poopsmith i dont believe that is a distortion pedal, its an overdrive i COULD use it over the amps distortion, but i am looking for a good distortion pedal.

Re: Epiphone's

congrats dude, you'll liek the epi les paul. I've played on my friend's epiphone standard LP and it was great, i also tried a custom LP by epiphone and loved it too, they make good LP's, but thier SG's to me feel kind of cheap.

Re: Epiphone's

any fuzz box is no good for metal, learned that when i bought my big muff PI( i bought it for hendrix type stuff) but i tried metal on it.................just doesnt work at all.

Re: Epiphone's

With my Classic 30 Ive used a Jackhammer, DS1, Grunge, tubescreamer. All work well, just depends on what your "Flavor" is.
For rock and heavy rock, Ive found a GREAT pedal. Im using a BOSS DS1 that has been modded by Stratdeluxer on the forum. The pedal has alittle more meat and is much smoother. Also when I changed tubes in the 30, I got some matched JJs and that woke it up too!
