has anyone used the dimarzio eric johnson humbuckers? i think they may be the humbuckers of my dream but i wanted to see what yall thought about them before i bought them. thanks for the help

The DMZ EJ Customs are fantastic pups. Twangy, kinda sorta Gretsch-like. I had a bridge unit in an Ibanez SA. They can handle gain very, very well. Cleans are wonderful. In the bridge, I would rate the EJ Custom higher than the SD Jazz bridge pup. In the neck, the nod goes to the Jazz.

Well, i had a Super strat with the EJ in the bridge. It had a Gretsch-y sound in a non-Gretsch-y guitar. Put it in a semi-hollow and the EJ might be the ticket. I can't help you more along those lines. Sorry. I can only rely on my own experience. I don't want to lead you astray.

I will say that the EJ customs will probably be able to handle higher gain much better than the TV Joneses. I'm sure MJ or SD could custom wind you a pup that could do both Gretch tone and handle higher gain. Also, give Zhang a pm and see if he could do it.

Rumor is that it takes 2 years to adjust just one EJ pickup to get the perfect tone.

never mind the polepieces...remember to use a non-ferrous fossil ivory-tipped screwdriver to adjust them and stand parallel to the feng shui ley lines while reciting koans from the Mumonkan...

If I get another ES-335 I'll give DiMarzio's EJ customs serious consideration. On paper they appear quite tempting for a vintage tone kinda guy like me.
