I'd love to have it, but that price is way up there. You get what you pay for though, especially if Eric worked with them to fine tune it.

Yep. I would definitely want to play through it before I bought it, though.

I've spent the last few days sitting down with the Eric Johnson instructional video and realized that no matter how good a person gets at guitar, Eric will be there to remind them that they're 200 years away. :smack:
I even start to question whether Jeff Beck is better than him, the more I see what Eric can do with a guitar. He's quite sick! :burnout:

haha ... well, Eric said he wanted to raise guitar playing to the level of a virtuoso violinist (and he's done a good job), whereas Jeff Beck said he's out to always get the most twisted tones he can (and he's done a good job) :D

I remember an article about Eric Johnson in Guitar Player years ago, before Eric had a record deal, and they had a little floppy 33 RPM record of Cliffs of Dover in that issue. I still have it. I instantly loved his tone and playing. There was a comment by Billy Gibbins in that article and he said something like:
"Eric Johnson? Whew that guy can play! He's as good as Jeff Beck!"

Well hot damn when did these come out? I'm a big EJ fan but I've never heard of these!

Personally I've gotten my best EJ imitation with a Strat, a Fulltone '69 pedal that was completely dimed out, a 1987X Plexi RI, a Greenback cab, and a Line 6 DL4 in the effects loop.

As far as how good EJ is... I have this Stratocaster Chronicles book and Jeff Beck said something like, "Bloody amazing; time for me to take up something else!" in regards to hearing Eric play LOL! I think JB and EJ are just so different as players that you can't really compare them to each other... there's enough room for both of them on my plate. :D

His Hot Licks videos... i got those well over 4 years ago and I'm STILL learning stuff off them! He's one of those guys who, if you learn his stuff, not only teaches out a lot about how he composes but also inspires you to branch out with your playing as well. I like how he uses a lot of interensting chords and such in his playing... very fusion-like.

Interesting that Jeff Beck and Billy Gibbons both wonder if Eric is 'the best.'
He's like en encyclopedia of chops! I always thought his tone would be better if he backed off the Chandler delay a little, but much of that violin tone can be attributed to his thick picks and his circular/light touch picking attack. I think most of the Eric Johnson tone is that.

Yesss. In HOT LICKS part 2, you know when he improvs with chord movements? I actually learned all that off the screen note for note. The guy really has an open mind about how to approach chords.

I know that Jeff Beck is a great player - and I've heard all of his albums entirely. But EJ for sure will kill him technically. Those runs such as in Desert Rose, Cliffs of Dover, or the fast part in Manhattan are really polished technically. But Jeff Beck can produce wacky sounds with his tremolo bar and picking technique. I think the type of sounds they get as a whole are completely different. EJ is more harmonics of all types, and smooth violin like leads. But Jeff Beck kinda chickenpicks, uses the whammy bar, volume swells, and feedback. Overall I'd call EJ's sound more "Proper", and JB's sound more "Wacky".

Is it just me or do you guys think that EJ needs more stage presense?!? He has to wear some trendy clothes get a cool hairstyle, gain some weight, and rock with a mean grin on his face - cuz he has every ability to guitar-wise. Wouldn't it be cool to see EJ like that? But I guess he's just not that kind of player. He's more traditional jazz-style musician.

wow, never knew he had a sig amp.

By the way, according to the Jeff Beck biography I just read on holiday, JB and EJ collaborated on a tune for 'Venus Isle' that wasn't released.
