Ernie ball can't answer!

I posted a thread on the Ernie ball forum about Bass strings in there "string forum", they recommend me to post in a bass forum?

A stringmanufacturer who can't even say what strings to recommend??

Anyway i hope i can get an answer here instead!

I play mostly walking stuff and "pumping" rock bass, think AC/DC "who made who" intro!, anyway i have always used Roundwound strings but when a friend of mine not long ago bought a fender jazz bass it came with flatwound strings, i loved the sound. Can i still play "pumping bass" or will it sound like "crap" with flatwounds?

Thanks!

Re: Ernie ball can't answer!

i think steve harris uses flatwound and they sound great to me

Re: Ernie ball can't answer!

He does!? :32:

Gonna buy som flatwounds then. Paul McCartney AND Steve Harris, that's all i need to buy something....

Re: Ernie ball can't answer!

if my memory serves me right he even had a signature line rotosound strings.. dont know though it's good 4 years since i was tinkering with a friends bass

Re: Ernie ball can't answer!

yeah steve harris has signature strings

i bought them, big mistake - THEY'RE MASSIVE

and didnt fit in the nut, so instead of having it re cut i just bought smaller strings

flatwounds seem to be smoother sounding (and feeling) but dont have that punch when you play slap styles..

if erlend drops by any time soon he'll explain better

Re: Ernie ball can't answer!

I like GHS Boomers. They're round wound so probably a little brighter than your flats. I'd use Rotosounds, but they're not recommended for Rickenbacker basses (too much tension or something).
