About the size of the necks - although musicmans tend to be narrow in wdth, they are not shallow in depth, In particular the axis is pretty deep, and the slihouettes are of about average depth.
So if you are worried about the size of the neck, bear in mind that it is width (especially at the nut) that may put you off.
I have pretty big hands, and it took some getting used to, but i now love the neck size and shape on those guitars.

zak, thanks a lot for the posts. For the price, it would definitely be worth it to atleast try one before I discount it completely :)

Re: Ernie Ball Guitars -

Wow. It sounds like the MM are all they're cracked up to be. I was a little skepticle, but now I feel very strongly that this guitar will be right for me. As far as the Special goes, the only reason I'm not getting that is the 22 fret neck... bummer. I would surely jump on the HSS if it had the 24 frets like the Silhouette.

But, the same dilemma is killing me as before: No where to play them! This sounds like the best part about the guitar: light, comfortable, fast, just what I'm looking for. Well, I guess I'll just have to jump down to NYC to experience one! Thanks everybody.

--Edit--

By the way Mincer, that Silhouette is CRAZY! Really, that is perfect. The scalloped fretboard is sweet! It's the ultimate in shreddage. Great work!

You know what's so annoying about Music Man instruments? How much they cost in New Zealand. I've been gassing for a Music Man for a while now, but they cost an arm, a leg, and your firstborn here. It's really hard to find a guitar, but the bass prices will show you:

Stingray 5 - on Musicians Fiend - $1,300

In New Zealand - $3,400

I'm waiting till I can get a friend to pick one up in the States sometime.

what's the NZ dollar at right now? when I was there it was abobut 2.5 to the us dollar. it doesn't seem like that bad of a deal for having the guitar shipped half way around the world. If you want, PM me and we can see about shipping you one from here (I live in MM central)

Where exactly is MM central? Some place in California I assume? I may just have to drop you a line in case I decide to go for the Silhouette. I would love it now, but money is hard to come by for the 15 year olds. I'll definately have you in mind when the time comes.

Re: Ernie Ball Guitars -

Hey kaknight, thanks for the offer. Appreciate it.

At the moment the exchange rate is US$1 = NZ$1.58 (NZ$1 = US$0.63)

We were up at around 70 cents for a little while, but only because the US economy has been a bit down.

Unfortunately at the moment I would really struggle to justify putting out the money right now. I've just finished paying for another guitar.

So I need to sit tight for probably at least another 6 months, and hope the exchange rate doesn't plummet too much.

I was thinking the other night that for US$3,400 I could do a trip to the US and grab a couple of 2nd hand Stingrays, a Silhouette for me, and bring them all back to sell. I could probably sell the Stingrays here for about US$1,400 pretty easily given what they are new.
