ES-335 which pickups??

untoldstory

I'm getting a Tokai ES-335 copy. body: maple, neck:mahogany, fingerboard: rosewood. it comes with vintage PAF's (tokai).
I'm looking for something a little bit hotter..just a little bit.
I thought of the SH-1 neck and the JB bridge as I use these two in a Les Paul Custom.
Will they sound as great in 335?
thanks

The 59/Jb combo has been working in my Epiphone semihollow(maple/rosewood with maple body) for almost ten years now. I still get compliments at the local jam sessions by dyed-in-wool les paul and strat users. An interesting side note: when I bought the 59 it was open coiled, but it didn't match the gold covered JB, so I put the Epiphone cover on it and wax potted the pickup. Works just fine.

I'm about to put a set of Seth Lovers into my Heritage 535 (335 copy)

I'm hoping to capture that old school bluesy 335 tone. Reports to follow.

There are so many great choices man. Good luck.

Seths most definately!

I've put a set in my Toaki 335 and they sound awesome.

They'll blow the stock Tokai PAF's away.

Have a listen to MarinBlues on this 335 loaded with Seths. It convinced me seths were the way to go.

My vote goes to Seths or '59s... altho since you want something a little hotter.... Pearly gates are not hotter but have more grit to them...might be worth considering too...

Re: ES-335 which pickups??

I have a jb in my 335 it's awesome, when I add the Ibanez tube screamer to it
it's like nothing else. That combo really stands out in the crowd.
People ask me,"man what guitar was that"? Try that combo on a track and see for yourself. My 335 had original hot pick ups which also sounded great with the tube screamer . But the JB gave it that little extra special sound that stands out from the rest! P.S 335 nice choice!

Check out MarinBlues' clips in the clips section...he has Seths in his Tokai.

Re: ES-335 which pickups??

Seths...for vintage 50's a2 paf tone: less bass, more mids, smoother highs.

59's for vintage 60's a5 "patent #" tone: deeper bass, more presence and "kiss" to the treble...less mids, but still plenty of mids...Larry Carlton tone.

Or: Jazz neck for less bass than the 59N and slightly clearer, more extended highs than the 59N.

Or: Seth neck and Custom Custom bridge: vintage 50's neck pickup..."modern" bridge pickup with thick singing mids and very smooth highs.
