ESP LH-100 Pickups: Direct Audio Sample

All,

For those who want to hear what my ESP LTD EC-100QM sounds like now (ESP LH-100 pickups), and recommend what replacement pickups for the style I prefer (Christian music, or basically something extremely versatile), here you go:

I basically recorded this directly from guitar to mic jack on laptop, then encoded it mono at the highest quality I could. File size is 2.2MB. You can hear me fool around with stuff and with neck/both/bridge on the 3 way switch, running through various leads and fills that I've done before.

If you want to hear more, through various effects, let me know and I'll record from my effects unit. The only reason I didn't run it through the Boss ME50 is because I didn't want to mess with the tone, hence the file name Somehow I think that the SD pickups would be a lot better

Sounds like it needs to be brightened up. I'd go with a '59b/Jazzn combo. Isn't that guitar made out of Agathis wood?

Yes, made out of Agathis.
Brightened up, eh? Most the guitars I looked at are Jazz/JB (ESP Dave Mustain sig.) or Jazz/Custom (their other models with SD pickups)....

Annyong.you can also try the 59 in the neck, might give it more sweetness.

Well, you said your style was Christian, so that was why I chose that combo. Versatile, but not high output. If you want to try a JB or a Custom, you can. I'd go with a Custom 5 over a Custom, myself. But, it's really up to you.

The '59 is for PAF tones. It's got an A5 and it's bright, tighter low end. The Jazz is bright, clean, and articulate, also with a tighter low end. I find that your guitar needs a bit of articulation, would be nice for very melodic parts, and the bass in that guitar really needs to be tightened up. It's very heavy on the low end. I might even go with a double Jazz combo, or a Jazz bridge and a '59 neck, but that's just my view. What exactly are you looking for?

I guess the '59 would do, I'd just have to be sure to get one that's modified for 4-wire. Other than that, thanks for the opinion!
Edit: sorry about that, you asked a question. I want a pickup set versatile enough so that in chorus, I sound absolutely beautiful, and distorted I sound raw and powerful, but not evil. Make sense?

Custom Custom and Jazz. The jazz is pretty angelic and clear when its clean, doesn't become very powerful with distortion in my opinion. But when mixed with a custom custom you can use the custom custom for any powerful distortion stuff you wanna do. Gives you a nice clear articulate choice and something more powerful. The JB and jazz is another nice combo if you want a hotter pickup then the custom custom

I had the same guitar, I'm telling you for experience, the JB works great in the bridge position of that axe.

Thanks for the opinions and help. I think something someone said got me started in the right direction:
A couple ESP models with similar materials as mine use the '59+JB combo. I found that I can order the '59 (neck) as a 4-wire on the internet, so that fear of going with a '59 is alleviated. Here's my research:

'59 EQ 6/3/8, JB EQ 5/6/8, together EQ 5.5/4.5/8
ESP H-400 has 59/JB combo with the maple-topped mahogany body

'59: country/jazz/blues/funk/classic rock/heavy rock
Warm, crystalline clean tones, smooth sustain

SH-4 JB: heavy blues to heavy metal
singing highs, aggressive harmonics, right blend of sustain and distortion
sweet warm to raw rock

both are for balanced and warm instruments, i.e. mahogany + rosewood

I think this should work. What do you guys think?
