Esquire setup for bottleneck

I'll try to keep this short.

I've got a MIM Fender 50's classic Esquire. Blonde, Ash body, maple fretboard. The pickup that is in her now is a Duncan Jerry Donahue sig, a very good pickup.

The guitar is a really good example of the model, but I just like my Relic Nocaster more (no big surprise there). I'm just not bonding with it even though it a good guitar.

Here's my idea: I want to set up the Esquire for slide in open tuning. In the past I have always played slide in standard tuning, BUT, I want to do the Savoy Brown tune "Tell Mama". That song just needs to be played in open A tuning to sound right.

Is there a pickup that would nail the P90 in mahogany squawl in my ash bodied Esquire? I would love the vibe of hauling out my Esquire for an open tuning slide song or two. As much as I love the JD sig pickup, I'm afraid that it sounds too "good" for raw-ass slide.

Any suggestions?
