Re: Essential Strat Upgrades

IMO at least locking tuners, graphtec saddles, new nut (graphtec or slipstone) and fully shielding the pickguard and body cavity.

If have a vintage bridge and want to get really picky, for $95 you can buy the best vintage bridge assembly set from www.callahamguitars.com

Re: Essential Strat Upgrades

Boy....lots! I always rewire mine for a master volume and master tone: 250K CTS pots and a .02 Sprague Orange Drop cap. I always connect the tone control to the middle lug of the volume pot (the 50's Mod) so I don't lose highs when I turn the volume control down. Then I install a Fralin Blender Pot which lets me blend in the bridge pickup to the neck pickup or add the neck pickup when the switch is set to the bridge pickup. I can also get all three pickups on when the switch is set for the neck & middle or middle and bridge. If the vibrato block is cast or made of pot metal I replace it with one made of steel. I almost always change the pickups to something better: I like Duncan Antiquity Texas Hots or Fralin True Vintage with a Steel Pole 43 for the bridge pickup...the Duncan 59B if it's a Super Strat. If the frets are worn I replace them with medium jumbos and a bone nut. If there's not enough string angle behind the bridge saddles I shim the neck a little so I can raise the saddles and get more string angle behind them to increase sustain and improve the tone. That's all I can think of for now! Lew

Re: Essential Strat Upgrades

The first upgrade for a Squier Strat is to buy a new guitar.

If you want Floyd Rose Speedloader stuff, get a job this summer (mow lawns, sell lemonade, ANYTHING) and save up for a new BC Rich NJ-series. It'll be a lot easier to just buy a new guitar than try and turn your Squier into a tone machine.

Re: Essential Strat Upgrades

why not just buy a new guitar? with all those "upgrades" you could get a better guitar instead and sell the squire.

i agree cept dont sell the squire

its prob worth too little to be worth selling - and with the mex pups you could have a worse sounding guitar..

i think you should keep it if you ever want a strat-y sound coz as soon as you get something with EMG 81 or 85's in ur gonna loose any chance of that
