Evanescence - tones

Re: Evanescence - tones

Nevermind - found this.

What ESP guitars are you using right now?
I'm playing the F-300FM and EC-1000, as well as the Viper-301, H-301 and H-307 seven-string.

What do you like most about them?
I played B.C. Rich and Charvel all through the late '80s and '90s but I have to say that tonally ESP guitars are superior. The pickups [EMG-HZs and EMG-81s] are freakin' awesome and the neck-thru body style gives it better sustain than the bolt-on style that I was otherwise used to. Other than that, ESP just has much better designs than the others on the market. When I play my Viper, I feel like a Pimp.

What kind of amplification are you using?
The Line 6 Flextone II head with a Peavey Black Widow cab. [Both John and Ben Moody recently began playing Line 6 HD147 heads.]

Re: Evanescence - tones

no offense intended to you of course, but the guitar tones are my LEAST favorite part of evanescence...it's the epitamy of Line 6 at it's worst and most sterile. But that's just my opinion of course, if you dig it, hey man, more power to you!

Re: Evanescence - tones

I was just curious what bands like that use. I love Amy Lee, the rest of the band doesn't blow me away.

I take that back, the piano player is amazing, oh and the strings too. :)

yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat. Amy Lee has an amazing voice and writes very well written songs..but the band just doesn't blow my skirt up

Re: Evanescence - tones

I love the song she does with Seether too.

I had a chance to work with a classical singer from the Boston Symphony and even she thinks Amy Lee is great.

Interesting, because their album was recorded using MESAs & MARSHALLs, though he did use Line 6 live.

I'd think a lot of bands might do that. With modelling technology getting better, some see 'why not make it easier on the roadies.' I agree with it totally, but wouldn't do the same myself.

As for Evanescene, not my thing at all. Amy's voice isn't half bad, but everything else? Not so much.

Re: Evanescence - tones

Best part about watching that band is oogling Amy Lee.......the rest of them are candidates for the selective mute button. :laugh2: Ms. Lee gives me an idea of where the old line "built like a brick sh*thouse" came from:fingersx:

Re: Evanescence - tones

hey dude, i'm a big evanescence fan too. ben moody uses jackson guitars. one of them is the SLSMG. too bad he left.

the quote you have is most probably of the other guitarist.

Re: Evanescence - tones

as for pedals, i dun know what they use but i think a noise gate is really useful to use when playing their stuff.

I'm most familiar with that live album they did...it's the one my sister plays the most. So that's where my opinions are coming from. I don't like judging tone on an album, because you're hearing it through too many different processes to make an accurate judgement of it

One of the great appeals of being using modeling amps and other tools like that is the ability to essentially create "your" amp with the convenience of a laptop and a cable when on the road.

A trip to Europe becomes MUCH less expensive to play when you can show up with your guitar, grab an amp and then make it "yours" in under 5 minutes just by uploading the patches.

Playing odd spots here and there makes the POD an attractive tool as well; show up, give it power, plug it in and you're set to go.

I admit...the technology is nowhere near where purists are going to consider it. But if you can appreciate it for what it is and use that to your advantage you prove to do nothing but remain ahead of the game.
