Even toned high output humbucher

Generally, if I am happy with the EQ of the signal going into the amp, I don't need an EQ.
I feel like that too, but I see both sides of the coin.

Having the abilty to EQ before distortion definitely gives you the ability to taylor your sound better. For example, cut a bunch of bass off the guitar itself before it reaches the first gain stages, and you can really tighten up an amp. That's kinda what the TCIP does in front of a Recto for the Meshuggah sound.

Buth I also feel like having a pickup sound the way you like it to sound without having to EQ it to hell and back leads to less headaches and overly complicating things.

If I do run EQ before distortion, I prefer to have a simpler EQ. 2 or 3 bands at most. Not 6 bands, personally. 6 bands is a bit too much and easy to get lost in tweaking endlessly. That's just me, though, and that's part of the reason why an 805 can be so great boosting high-gain amps.

A Bare Knuckle Abraxas would describe this. Pretty even eq across the board. It has a 14k resistance. It does a hifi kind of reproduction of the acoustic sound of the guitar. Mind you I didn't get on with it in a Les Paul. Sounded good with an A2 magnet though. Very similar to a Custom Custom. Perhaps an A4 magnet is the answer...

I am looking for a humbucker sounding like the Custom 5 but with some more mids which results in en even balanced low-mid-high pickup
I like Alnico 5 humbuckers in general. The JB is too much mids for me or actual too much low-mids and high-mids without the mid-mids
So looking for a warm- even tone but with high output (14-16k)

any ideas?

This may be a dumb question but have you tried to roll back the volume of the JB?

If you have and still aren't content, maybe an overwound A2 like a 78 or Slash 2. The Slash 2 has more mids than the 78 apparently.

ime Tone Zone is the most even sounding hot humbucker. some say it's bassy, but I haven't had that experience with it thru any amp or modeler I've ever tried so I don't know what they're talking about, unless theyre just listening with their eyes at the EQ chart Dimarzio has on their website. It's smooth and yet it can totally thrash

Funny thing is, that I don't think a pickup that amplified all frequencies equally would sound very good.

I found the Tone Zone too much of everything

I was pretty sure the Abraxas come stock with A4?

How would you describe the sound?
Maybe I am looking for the classic PAF tone with a higher output (about 15K)

The 490 and 498 are, (to me) "Plain vanilla with just a hint of sizzle. " At about 14k

Smooth and well rounded and don't exaggerate any frequencies very much, I think they may work well for what you are describing.
