Ever heard of a BECK amp?

Hi all,

The engineer at the studio I record at found a 'Beck' amp head for next to nothing a little while ago.

It's British, 50w, probably early 70s vintage, and was designed as a PA head. So it has a master volume, and four inputs, all with independant bass, treble and volume. It runs EL34s and has a partridge transformer.

I gave it a good run thru last week and it sounds like a cross between an old marshall and a Hiwatt, only with more gain and a looser, more stoner bottom end when really pushed.

Does anyone know anything about these amps? -I'd love to get hold of one.

Re: Ever heard of a BECK amp?

that sounds sweet. That Hiwatt vibe is coming from the partridge transformers. I've never heard of a Beck amp.

Re: Ever heard of a BECK amp?

There were many small companies building amazing, uniquely designed amps in Britain. My Kelly head falls into the brilliantly obscure category. I am always seeking out the obscure and forgotten and have come upon several amps that have their own wonderful voice.

I have never heard of Beck, but your description makes me want one bad!! Likely one sitting dusty on the shelf of some pawn shop, or some old guys basement, just waiting for you to take.....

Yeah, I'm sure it'd be your cup of tea...
