i got a used neck duncan distortion today and put it in my LP, it wasnt what i had in mind, was thinking about swapping out the ceramic for an A2,A5 maybe.was wondering if any one else has done surgery on a DD and what was the outcome.

The DD is really a JB with ceramic mags instead of A5. The DD I have in the bridge of my Standard was a JB, magnet swapped. I would be interested in hearing what a JB neck sounds like.
I have an A5 in my Distortion neck now. It makes it a very mellow, well-behaved pickup. Nice for George Benson type jazz cleans. On the downside, it's a bit too well behaved. I prefer its original personality and will be putting the ceramic back.
Don't get me wrong, its not bad, but I'd rather buy pup that was made for that sound.

Edit: Since you asked, I had to pick up my Peavey and mess with this a little this morning. One thing I will say is, with the A5 mag, the Distortion neck is an almost perfect match for the Custom 5 in the bridge. The outputs are almost identical. The neck does the "mellow" bit, while the C5 does the "bite". Its a great pair. Maybe I'll leave it alone after all.
Nice comparison Artie! So it still cleans up well or does it get muddy with the A5? You said George Benson tone which is quite nice so I'd be anxious to find a neck tone more like that in a solid body
