Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

I had a client ask me to install Evertune bridges in four of his guitars. I haven't done one of these, and frankly - they look like an overly complex beast of hardware that will require a significant amount of wood removed from the guitar body. What say you?

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

From a distance they seem like a gimmick that solves some sort of problem I don’t have.

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

^ Exactly

Although, and I’m saying this with complete sincerity, it’s interesting how the Evertune seems to appeal to one demographic and practically no one outside that.

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

No problem keeping my guitar in tune. So wouldn't ever consider mods that destroy the guitar for any other option.

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

Seriously, I don’t see anyone on their testimonials that’s not using either super high gain, or an insane amount of processing. I’m moderately curious to try a Strat, Les Paul, or Tele with one and see what it does to the tone.

Not suggesting you try to talk your customer out of it, but why does he want that installed?

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

Looks like a cool bridge. The videos I’ve seen show an incredible stable guitar across all tunings. I know they have a setup for bending where you basically bring the tension right up to the point where it starts to move, but to me you’re kind of taking away half of the stability if you do that.

If you are a rhythm player especially using odd/heavy string gauges especially with lower tunings I could see it being a good option.

I AM trying to talk him out of it. He's a flake (a flake with money). Every new cool piece of gear he buys is THE BEST EVER, swears he'll be buried with it, and then four months later, he sells it on his Reverb page. He's had two different Kempers (one head, one rack), three different PRS 509's, and several custom shop Les Pauls, etc.

I don't need the work, frankly - but I don't someone else in town to butch up the guitar (it has happened more than once). I mean - it's America, he can do what he wants, but I don't have to be a party to his gear modding chaos.

Oh, yeah - and he has a one year old son. Maybe he should save some of that cash for the kid? He's not gigging - just teaching and running a studio from his basement.

Sounds like the best customer EVER! :LMAO:

Sounds like an authentic musician too!!!

"EverTune is a patented bridge system that keeps your guitar in tune under any conditions."

That's also the description of a blocked Floyd isn't it?

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

I’m afraid to ask, but what are the guitars he wants to butcher with the djenty bridges?

He hasn't said..... But right now he has a Tele, a Strat, a Les Paul, and a PRS..... Some other stuff I haven't worked on yet. I think he has 10 guitars or so right now.

Maybe talk him into buying an LTD with one already installed?

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

Meh. Why worry about it? Just take his money and do it, it's not your guitar (or your kid). If he regrets it in a week, it's his loss, not yours.

People are stupid. A guy who uses an AxeFX puts out a signature tube amplifier and people fall for it...

Re: Evertune - who has one, is it worth it?

Or maybe they just like the Invective's feature set? Misha stays up on the "modern metal" guitarist message boards, he knows what people are generally looking for (hence why he's been able to make Horizon Devices a success).

(Also, he's using the Invective as his power amp live these days.)

I don't NEED the money anymore, and I actually care more about the guitars than I do the clients and his wishes.

I have been doing this for a long time, and just like the car restoration crowd - have realized sometimes it's better to buy another than to do so much work to a guitar that has a proven legacy.... In other words, it's only original once.

Do you also worry about whether your screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, and soldering irons still have all of the original parts?

It's a guitar. It's not the Mona Lisa or Pieta, it's a tool for making music. I doubt he's going to bring you anything that there aren't hundreds, if not thousands, more like. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter what the hell happens to his guitar; might as well make some money off of whatever he wants done to it.

No worries at all. I take care of my stuff. I still use the screwdriver set I got for graduating from 6th grade (original orange Malco stuff from the late 60's)..... But I've got dozens more now.

And I get the guitar as tool deal. I know they are not holy things. I simply asked a question, wondering WTH the deal was with this bridge. Any money I make off this flaky-ass client is beside the point. He obviously has more money than brains, but I don't feel the need to fleece him just because I can. AND - it's none of your business if I do.

I wanted to focus on the damnable piece of gear.

Not exactly, it has a spring loaded system that keeps the string at a specific pitch. Checkout a YouTube video, from an engineering standpoint it’s pretty interesting.
