Every Reach You Take

Hey, I wanted to ask an opinion question: on Every Breath You Take, do you think he reaches for all the parts and just has an insanely big hand (or just bigger than mine lol), or does he either detune or capo to achieve the same thing? Just asking....

Re: Every Reach You Take

It sounds too fluid for him to be lifting fingers to play those arpeggios, though that's how I get away with it...

Re: Every Reach You Take

I play it. So it can be done lol. I guess I never really put much thought into whether I lift my fingers or not. It is a great finger/picking exercise, which is the way that I use it. Summers is a great guitarist IMHO. Anyone who can keep up with Fripp has got to be great:laugh2: .

My advice is to take it slow and work for accuracy and then speed it up. Metronomes are helpful here.

Re: Every Reach You Take

youtube a video or two of it being played live ... i have seen it done a few different ways ... and sting plays it differently than andy plays it ... whatever works for you
i do it with the stretches
good luck

Re: Every Reach You Take

I don't have very long fingers, but it's possible. I found I could pull it off after some focus and practice... Practice, practice, practice.

Re: Every Reach You Take

My hands are average sized I figure, and I play it without having to reach for all the parts . . . it can be done, just hang in there!

Re: Every Reach You Take

I keep thinking the word "Around" should be in this thread's title. Dunno why.

Re: Every Reach You Take

A few times/hours of practice and you'll be able to play with the reach. I know that some arpeggios can be "cheated", but the majority require a bit of a struggle. It's all about training the motor memory.

Re: Every Reach You Take

I can do it but, I have meat hooks for hands.
