Everybody should own a...

We all know the 'everyone should own a Strat, LP and Tele' rhetoric.

But what are the amps that everybody should own... or at least TRY?

Plexi style, AC-30 style, Twin style, etc.?

Re: Everybody should own a...

A tweed bassman or deluxe, a deluxe reverb or twin reverb, a jcm 800, an ac-30, and probably a mesa to round it off.

Re: Everybody should own a...

Should you go for the amps or the guitars first.... for an amp I'm looking at an ac-15 or maby an ac-30, for guitars i need a les paul... or a strat.... i like them both..

Re: Everybody should own a...

I won't go into specific models but a fender, vox, marshall and mesa seems to cover the spectrum very nicely.

Re: Everybody should own a...

Everyone needs to own at least one Marshall tube amp in their life. It's just.. a requirement of guitar playing.

Re: Everybody should own a...

But everyone already DOES have some variant of Fender, Vox, or Marshall :D

I've often failed to understand why popular things are popular. I look forward to the day when more people scope out gear on their own rather than going with something safe... Sure you'll **** up and get something crappy every once in a while,

but I think the best gear is buried beneath a bunch of people who are calling it crappy. So bring out the shovel.

Re: Everybody should own a...

well i always figured a well rounded collection should have at least one Fender and one Marshall to start.... i have an Original 1965 Deluxe amp and a 1982 JCM 800 2204 as part of my amp collection, i have about 8 now... But a Marshall and a Fender, that right there is a good start.... I'd love to add another Fender and a VOX AC-30 oneday... a Hiwatt and a Boogie as well

Re: Everybody should own a...

I want your bandmaster.

I'm using a fender tonemaster ATM that kinda reminds me of it, but more of a high gain type affair...

don't mind it at all.

thats what i did when i bought the genz benz el diablo 100, even bought it only having played the 60w model and its the best thing ive heard:fing25:

Re: Everybody should own a...

Well basically I see it that people going for tonal variations should own at least one british and one american styled amp, preferably older style as in plexi over a dsl. Then next one should take some quality pedals to take those amps further. Next, if you wanted to that far, you could buy a modern take on a british or american amplifier.

Re: Everybody should own a...

I still think that ENGL is far underrated brand.

The Screamer is just a beast, try and crank it to around 8 on the MV and it just growls as hell.

Re: Everybody should own a...

Everybody should own an amp, that suits their needs. I mean if you only
play in your bedroom what would you do with a Marshall full stack? Except
for it would look really cool :)

+1 . . . the more that I try out new things, the more that I am consistently impressed by lesser known brands.

First things first...

Re: Everybody should own a...

I'd agree with Marshall, Fender, Vox, or essentially EL-34, 6L6, EL-84

But, I think everyone should own a modeler of some sort. There's a variety of reasons.....low volume practice, direct demo recording, getting a good idea of the differences between 16 amps, and being able to use headphones.

Re: Everybody should own a...

Make sure with the Marshall, that its going through 2 4x12s and running on ten. Now thats an experience.
