everything sounds bad today...

You guys ever have one of those days where no matter what guitar you pick up and no matter what amp and or FX you plug it into you just can't be happy with the tone you are getting?

Re: everything sounds bad today...

YES! It always seems to be the day I try to record something, too. Funny because when I crank it up to play live, I can't seem to get a tone I DON'T like.

Re: everything sounds bad today...

I have that on more days than I would like. Usually on the important days too!

Re: everything sounds bad today...

That happens to everyone sometimes. Come back to it later when you're in a better mood.

yep, sometimes im like that with my playing too

Same here, bro. But today I've been able to pull out some of the best thrash riffs I've ever played, and that may not sound like a lot.. but it is.

But I know the feeling.. where some days it's embarrassing to even plug into your amp.

Re: everything sounds bad today...

Yep. The two most consistent complaints I have? Either something sounds too compressed or there's a jarring KRRAANG sound in the upper mids that I can't seem to get rid of without going straight to Muffle City.

Re: everything sounds bad today...

Happens less and less lately for me, and I love it.

Just be happy; tomorrow it'll sound godly.

Re: everything sounds bad today...

All the time.

Although, if you were trying to press high-gain tones out of a single coil loaded Strat and a solid state Marshall, you would too.

To shake it off I either go watch my G3 DVD to get pumped up for playing, or come up with new ways to buy new gear. Warming up thoroughly before playing anything also helps immensely.

Two weeks and I'll have my PRS CE22 and a real amplifer. *Sigh*

I'm having one of them days too. I'm also not really jolly today

Re: everything sounds bad today...

it happens everyday to me...except I don't have the option of switching guitars of amps to see if that sounds good :(

Re: everything sounds bad today...

Sounds like my day today. I strung up my guitar with some 11s for the first time because I wanted to play some stuff in C, but I was dumb. I should have bought heavy bottoms and skinny tops lol because I cannot play ANY fast runs!!

It's a lot of stress on my wittle fingers :(

Re: everything sounds bad today...

just face it dude......your gear has all gone bad and lost its tone.....now, just face reality and give it all to me :D

Excellent guitar. I have one. Sometimes I feel like my tone is crappy, but then I'll come back a little later and it'll sound awesome. It's really strange...

OH MAN! is that live in Denver!? Nothing pumps me up more than hearing Far Beyond the Sun w/ Yngwie...I'm not a shredder, nor do I listen to shred often, but that melody grips me and makes me want to play some slick chops.
:bigthumb:

I just found that the simpler your rig gets, the better it is for this scenario. I've kept cutting down my rig, now I'm down to Strat>DRRI-after a LONG jam today (first jam in a while) with the band, I couldn't find a tone that I did not like. Volume was up at around 7, treble 6, bass 4, and a bit of reverb. Warming up is good for preventing this 'dissatisfaction factor', but don't expect to always get a great sound that you'll like every jam when you have 10 pedals in the signal chain with different settings, or if you're always switching guitars and amps.

Sometimes I have whole days where I can't even listen to music because everything sounds like ****. I wonder what causes that. It could be psychological, or maybe sometimes our ears just get fatigued. Either way, I take a break and a day or two later, I'm ready to rock. Breaks are IMPORTANT.
