Any Fender freaks out there.....is this statement (from the voodoo site) true.?
......... "Leo Fender was notorious for running 8ohm speakers on 4ohm taps in his older amps".
He was using a 4 Ohm Speaker.?he actually did the opposite, too, allowing 4ohm loads on 8ohm taps in smaller amps like Deluxes. Prob could've dedicated an entire article just to Fender impedance mismatching.
He was using a 4 Ohm Speaker.?
Sorry, i am even more confused now.internal 8ohm + external 8ohm = 4ohm total load on 8ohm output.
Larger amps with 4ohm output taps could easily handle a pair of 16ohm JBLs (8ohm total load)
That's weird.
So Fender ran 2x 8 Ohmm Speakers // ...into an 8 Ohm OT...not a 4 Ohm OT ...from the factory.?
And these were old speakers/cabs, that looked to be the original Fender set-up.?If you used an external cab along with the internal combo speaker, then yes. It's tough to say exactly what came out of the factory some 40 years later, but i've seen Vibroverbs with 8ohm 15"s on 4ohm outputs, and Dual Showman heads with 8ohm cabs on 4ohm outputs. It's a testament to great design and quality components, really. The same can't be said for other manufacturers.
And these were old speakers/cabs, that looked to be the original Fender set-up.?
God knows Fender used whatever tube charts, panels. knobs might be available.
This is the first i have ever heard they did the same with speakers.....certainly possible...though i would think in limited numbers.
Very interesting indeed.
Thanks
