EVH CS in a Les Paul?

Re: EVH CS in a Les Paul?

I have no first hand experience, but Jeff at HighOrder took one apart and basically called it very good PAF style pickup. So I guess, by some standards, it could be considered a colder CC--That is to say, some consider a CC a hotter version of a PAF. But the EVH is probably better grouped with standard style PAF style pickups.

Most say EVHisms are more easily pulled off with the EVH/78 than other PAF style pickups.

Re: EVH CS in a Les Paul?

I tried it briefly, and it's sort of a cross between a 59 and CC......that's the first thing that comes to mind. It was an EVH that I borrowed from a forumite just to try out. I still think the CC or C-5 is a better choice, but that's just my opinion.

Re: EVH CS in a Les Paul?

I don't think it's a cooler CC. The EVH has a different EQ curve and it's more open than the CC. Just a totally different sounding pickup.

The CC has some of that PAFish quality in it but I attribute that to the nice mid spike and rounded highs which are characteristic of the great sounding PAF's.

The CC can act like a not-very hot pickup, and IMO is more medium output with it's characteristics but the EVH is pure overwound PAF that is still open sounding but oh so very sweet.

Re: EVH CS in a Les Paul?

Sounds like it'll be right up my alley! I got an R8 on the way and the previous owner swapped out the BB for an EVH. I'll be sure to post a review here once I get her!

Re: EVH CS in a Les Paul?

I had one in the bridge of a Standard for short period of time. I guess it split the difference between a 59 and a CC, it didn't have the output of a CC though. Sounded dead-on EVH, too much for me actually, that is why it is didn't stay around. I mean if you want the classic EVH sound you can't go wrong with it, they nailed it, but once the novelty wore off I sold it. I think MrID bought it?

Re: EVH CS in a Les Paul?

The EVH and CC are completely different beasts...and the EVH sounds kick f-in ass in an LP. The EVH neck is a very very cool pickup itself too...even in the bridge. If I had to choose Seth Lover,CC,APH-1,Stag Mag, or EVH neck for a bridge position p'up I'd take the EVH neck hands down. It's so different sounding. But yes...The EVH is an excellent, meaty, raunchy choice for an LP bridge.

Re: EVH CS in a Les Paul?

I was thinking the EVH pickup would be the one until I heard of the Wolfetone Marshallhead.
