I am listening to fair warning today on vinyl and cd. I swear i can hear dimarzios on this record, when i put the cd in you can hear it as well but only if you are listening for it. Does anybody know this for a fact?

Re: EvH Fair warning

How do you "hear" Dimarzios? There are so many variables to tone - guitar wood, amp, cables, etc. How could you isolate a tone to a Dimarzio?

Not intended to be sarcastic, just wondering.

Re: EvH Fair warning

Bach to Rock has mentioned the hybrid as being used by Ed on that CD. It would be hotter than a paf. MAybe that accounts for it. He also could have been using a hotter marshall. Someone will chime in with better answers than mine.

Re: EvH Fair warning

Wow...you hear DiMarzios, really?!

Not knowing for sure what any of the guitars, amps, cabs, speakers, mics, EQing, effects, etc was you hear DiMarzios...

You my friend are amazing...whats youer secret? Teach me please!!!

Re: EvH Fair warning

Yes there seems to be alot of mystery in some circles about the 'Fair Warning' tone, but I'll
tell you the tone can be had with a 78' and a good cranking Marshall. Pick your bass and mids
up also. There also seems to be a buzz about the 59' hybrid. It's possible. One more thing, you should always remember that there's always alot of studio magic going on with EVH also, courtesy of Ted Templeman and Don Landee.

I agree

Re: EvH Fair warning

Absolutely.

... but how do you HEAR dimarzios?

I've heard Gibsons and a Marshall; because i have them and know how they sound together, and knew for a fact the artist used them.

Dude, there could be ANYTHING going on on that record.

I think "studio magic" gets a little more credit than its due. I have been tracking guitars for real for 5 years now. While you can tweak effects etc I have never been able to remove the fundamental sound of an instrument. You can make it blend into a track better but you can't make a Gibson sound like a Fender for example

Yes, you can't make a Gibson sound like a Fender. But with EQ, Compression,
and Pre-amping you can Beef-up the sound.

Not really what the original question was but OK. Is a beefed up strat not still going to sound like a strat?

Yes your right, but what I was trying to say is lets take a Franky style guitar
with a 59' and add some effects. It could sound 'different' where some people
couldn't tell what pup was in it.

Re: EvH Fair warning

OKay well let me explain my opinion better.
When i listen to tracks on this record and cd I can hear the distictive Yaw! sound Marzios are famous for especially the super dis.
It being the most used at the time.
I can tell most sounds of marzios, single coils, tele's and active pups.
I just asked the Evh guys cause i heard some signeture phrasing that buckethead also uses. That being the reason for my thread.
