EVH Frankenstein Pickup vs Dimarzio Super Distortion

Re: EVH Frankenstein Pickup vs Dimarzio Super Distortion

If you can play like Van Halen, the Super Distortion is close enough.

Nitro, I mean...pittbull...already knows that.

If you want the first album sound get the Dimarzio Super Distortion and call it a day

But he hasn't actually tried a Super D, so...

To everyone else wondering, the Super D and EVH Frankie are quite different in a number of ways. The Frankenstein is medium output and fairly smooth through the midrange/treble, but still open sounding with a little more clarity than the similarly spec'd Custom Custom. In fact, the Frankie is essentially the fix to what most don't like about the Custom Custom, though both are fairly warm/thick sounding pickups overall.

The Super D is noticeably hotter and more compressed sounding when driven. Definitely a "high output" pickup in every sense. Also, the voicing of the Super D is fairly distinct.

I do have an idea, bro. From the MetroAmp forums, the Marshall forums, you name it...you've been around for a long time asking the same things and getting nowhere.

And you've already admitted in other threads here just recently that you haven't tried the Super D. I just can't figure out why, after 10+ years, you can't pull the trigger on the d**n thing?

Oh yeah, and while you're focused on me, you missed that my post ultimately addressed your question. ;)

MastaC your like a stalker,I tried many pickups including the Super D, your embarrassing yourself. Everything you learned about the Van Halen sound was from me anyway so stop.

GuitarSTV I like the Super D a lot. In the 70s there really wasn’t a lot to choose from. Edward used Might mite, Dimarzio and Gibson.Seymour didn’t wind anything for Ed until after the first album was recorded Terry kilgore(tube tramp)explained that to me who was a friend of Edward. I used to by tubes from Terry.

Re: EVH Frankenstein Pickup vs Dimarzio Super Distortion

I bought tubes from Terry Kilgore once. He’s a basket case that can’t communicate or follow an instruction; which to me makes any of his recollections of past conversations suspect.
