Anyone know what kind it is, or have a web link or story behind it? Great looking guitar with his signature tape job but different from his previous strat shapes.

That's what was on the cover, and that's what he claimed to use throughout most of those albums. Of course, he claimed a lot of things......

Re: EVH guitar in Women and Children First

I once saw an early pic of Ed playing the "Shark" Ibanez Destroyer when it was white and hadn`t been all hacked up. From everything I`ve read over the years that very early in VHs career Ed wanted Wayne Charvel to paint the Ibanez black. It would take a month to get that done so Ed went to town and cut out a chunk of the body near the bridge(supposedly with a chain saw)and striped it. I`m pretty sure I`ve read that guitar has a Dimarzio Super Distortion with an A2 magent and Ed might have rewound it. Due to the chunk of wood Ed took out of the guitar it ruined the tone it had but he still used it for encores on the first VH world tour. The "Shark" Ibanez Destroyer wasn`t used for recording on 'Women and Children First" , Ed borrowed a Destroyer from Chris Holmes of WASP for a few tunes on that album. That folks it was I`ve learned from my readings over the last 25 years.
