EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

Re: EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

He needs to quit...but that amp sounded pretty good. Fender really does need to get into that kind of amp.

Re: EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

Maybe I'm crazy but I thought he played pretty well. The amp sounds good too, I'd love to try one in the future whenever they come out.

Re: EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

Wow I was prety impressed.....erm...with the tone of that amp that is. Very thick, you can hear that bottom end come through even on the computer. Blows away the tone he got with those Peavys IMO. And yes, back to "normal" like jazzerlbn said. I think this whole EVH thing is a great thing for Fender to do. Appeal to a whole new audience and stuff. The guitar actually looks right to me instead of those Charvell ones. Of course, now they cost a ton and are all reliced and stuff, limited edition of a certain number. If they were really smart, they would make a cheaper EVH model with the same specs (lesser quality of pickups and some other things to drop down the price) and put it in the $1000 range, make it unlimited production and make it not reliced. Thats what I think at least...

Re: EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

Amp has that clarity that is missing from the 5150. I like what I am hearing and Ed, in this short snipit sounds much more on' than the well below average 04 concert I saw.

Re: EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

The amp and guitar sound great, and honestly, for the few seconds of the clip, Eddie sounded like Eddie. As far as his speech, couldn't understand a word of it, but mostly because he was talking so low. Whether he was drunk or not, I have no clue, nor really care.

Re: EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

Forgot to mention that I thought he looked much better than when I saw him last (a concert pic from a few months ago I saw on the internet).

Re: EVH playing his new amp @ NAMM video

I think he sounded great. I don't think he was drunk- seems a bit difficult to play like that if you're under the influence. Wish there was more to the clip.

It could be possible that EVH is just playing into the hype and persona that he's drunk or loony.

I think this new brand Fender is helping him start up will be a success. He designed the EB/MM Axis which is a killer guitar. The Peavey Wolfgang was an evolution of the Axis, just with an arch top and hotter pickups. That Fender amp sounds very close to the tone he got on tour with the Soldanos

That amp sounded to smooth IMO... Oh well at least I know I won't feel the need to fork out money for it lol.

Its rolled off tone was cool near the end though.

Anyone can sound like eddie if they know that tapping technique, infact if you do that it's damn near impossible to not sound like him.

I'm sure that amp sounds much differant in person than it does on youtube!

You're hearing the microphone, the microphone placement, the mixer, the room and however the recording has been EQed...not the actual amp.

And Eddie, even on an off day, can still play rings around just about anyone.

It's like when Muhammad Ali came back in 1971 and everyone said he wasn't the boxer he used to be...but he was still 10 times better than anyone else!

Heck...no one is who they used to be. Not me...not you...not anyone. You're who you are now...

He recorded pretty much every album, especially the early ones, while drinking heavily, his normal everyday drinking in those days would probably put us mortals under the table. Not to mention playing most of his shows while under the influence, it never stopped him from playing great before.

Where popular music is now, we'll need 60000000000 more good guitarists out before EVH can quit. Let's get somebody that can actually play decently onto the music stage now before we give EVH the boot...

The man will always be a guitar hero, but......yawn, that was pretty boring.
