A lot of Ed's early sound was for sure VOLUME...I for one don't think you have to have a lot of volume to get a good sound but there are some sounds out there....The Brown Sound, Cream era Clapton, early ZZ Top, etc that you will never nail unless you can crank a fairly large amp...sorry...

+1 on the "Sometimes it just has to be loud" to be real. That's why the 500 watts on my Nakamichi makes some music just sound so real it's unbelievable, and like no little Bose radio ever could...

yeah dont forget, aint talking about love, with no whammy bar on it, was probably the ibanez destroyer

edit, i think it does at the end? wow, how many grey hairs to i have?

Actually, "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" has one of the coolest early low E-string dive-bombs at the end this side of "Eruption" in recorded history...:friday:

Ed also went down to 8s. Also, I believe Ed has two sets of strings out, one 9s "for recording" and one light/heavy for playing live.

I believe as with all things, he put on whatever was around, or whatever was sensible or the sound he wanted. He put a Bass A string on before also...
