Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

U R posed'ta turn that .5 degree shim around to where the bigger part is towards the headstock. This lowers the neck( for me just the right amount) and may solve your issue.

Yep. What I meant. [emoji41][emoji41]

I might get that stew Mac set and start with the .25 and work into the next increments as needed.

A time or two, I've used brass shins. Like the little strips of brass you can get from the hobby shops and some hardware stores. They come are several options for thickness and width. If I wanted them a bit wider, I'd just mark and drill holes for the neck mount screws. Since stew Mac makes those shims, I'd like to try them, but haven't had the chance yet.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

I going to try that and see if I can get the front of the bridge down some.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

The action is at 1.5mm at the 12th fret like they say but, the front of the bridge is at about 4.9mm from the guitar body.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

Yikes. Where's the back of the bridge?

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

The back rests on the guitar. So far all of them I've seen are about like this. You can't llower the front much at all or the fret out starts getting pretty bad. The action is already at about 1mm at the 7th fret with some relief in the neck like it's set now so that's how low it is already.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

Hi,
I have an EVH striped circles and I’m having the same problem….The guitar is amazing but there is no way to setup the bridge like it should be….

Did you find the solution to the problem?? The only option that seems ok right now is setup the bridge floating and parallel to the body. But that way the D-tuna will be unusable.

Any support will be welcome

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

LOL, I became occupied with a used JVM head I bought, and I all but forgot I had this guitar. I did buy some Stew Mac shims, which have been in the paper bag since I bought them months ago. I have mostly been playing Strats and my sharktooth Ibanez, and Jacksons.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

The back of the tremolo rests on the guitar because, if it "floats" as Floyds usually do, the D-Tuna would cause all of the strings to go out of tune due to the change in balance between the springs and the strings.

I didn't like that goofy setup on mine either. I use on of those little brass trem stoppers on mine. Now the bridge sits level, stays in tune, and plays great.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

I’ve been proving a bit more with the bridge and neck relief and I finally can get 1.5mm at 12th fret with no fret buzz. The front part of the Floyd is about 2.5mm from the body and the rear part rest over it.

I have now the guitar working OK with the D-Tuna but if I completely pull down the Floyd, the E, B and G strings go to around +25 in the tuner.
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong….or maybe it is normal that the guitar goes out of tune if I do this extreme test. Problem is that when I made same test whit other Floyd equipped guitars in the past, they keep in tune.

It looks like I’ll have to take out the D-tuna and setup the Floyd to float :(

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

Has anyone tried putting a coin or two between the bridge plate and the face of the guitar?

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

I have a striped series no issues really I did lower the floyd 2 whole turns to sit on the body, neck pocket is perfect. Lot of the D tuna screws were too long BTW they shipped me a new one and a allen wrench for free:). you have pics of the problem?

Sure. Why else would Frankenstein have quarter screwed to the body?

No, but seriously, the little brass trem stoppers that go in the spring cavity work great.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

I realized that the high E stud was a bit lower than the low E stud….I set both sides with the same height and now looks like the tuning is more stable. Seems like the bridge was unstable when rested again on the body after dive bombs due to that difference.

Anyway I’m not happy with D-tuna performance…..The locking screw is too long and if I completely push-in the D-tuna, the string is always out of tune. To make it “work” I have to push-in the D-tuna just until my finger touch the locking screw end….but but that's very imprecise.

Do you know if it's possible buying a shorter screw??

When I bought my D-Tunas they came with 2 locking studs. One long and one short....
Not sure how you are doing it but I always tune the guitar withe the D-Tuna “out”, as in Drop -D mode. Then tune up, push the D-Tuna in to Standard tuning and use the tiny Allen key to fine tune your standard tuning setting. Should work perfect after that.

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

FU tone has the screws email Adam he is real cool and will send you one free probably too. He sent a set screw the Allen screws and a wrench!

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

Here are some pics to show how to set it up...

Re: Evh Striped Neck Pocket Issue

Hi,

I've putted new strings and checked the intonation of the saddles and now the D-tuna works ok, although it hasn't' to much range for the adjustments...But at least D and E are in tune. The low E-saddle was too far from the nut and gave too much length to the locking screw.

Anyway I will buy the trem stopper to get a better setup of the Floyd because I prefer the bridge parallel to the body.

Thank you very much for your support. And sorry about my bad English :(
