Personally I never found the appeal in POD's, they sound too digital to me but its all personal preference. I don't really like the multi-effects boards although there are some decent ones out there. I was browsing YouTube a while back and found this guys videos. He's got a Vox Tonelab and gets some pretty good VH tones with it considering he's not got it plugged into an amp or cab but straight to his PC. Playing is good also, which is mostly where its at of course...the fingers! Anyways here's one of his videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDJg-WjjSYI

Yes I believe that's true. eVh just got together with MXR to creat a 5150 overdrive pedal...It's pretty dang close to his tone too! I believe he has a phaser with MXR.

You would be correct. Phaser, Flanger, and Wah Wah's in addition to the Overdrive.
