WOW, All I can say is now I an play this guitar....

I replaced the blah sounding stock EVH pickups with a JB Model Bridge and '59 in the neck. What a difference. Thanks to all at SD for your great products. I had totally regretted getting this guitar after playing with PRS's for years until the JB saved the day. Paint job by my bud Andrew at http://.Bluerockercustoms.com .

Congrats! I had a similar experience with my Ernie Ball/Axis although I didn't swap the pickups. What I did do is put a nice JB Trembucker in one MIJ Strat and a nice 59 Trembucker in another MIJ Strat and when both blew away the EVH/Dimarzios in my Axis I sold the Axis! :smack: Lew

You don't find the Wolf at all too bright or thin sounding? I had a hardtail Wolf Standard but sold it because I like a beefy tone with a lot of depth. I would bet an over wound C-5 or something with good bass would be awesome in the Wolf.

No not at all. The stock pickups were terribly low output and with the maple top I expected it to be much brighter than it was. The JB really brought out the sound in the guitar. Talk about bright , my '89 PRS CE is so friggin hot its insane with stock pickups. The Wolfgang is a nice balance between it and my other PRS which is mahagony and has a more subdued LP type of tone.

Wow, I've never heard anyone refer to the Wolfgang pickups as having "terribly low output." Those are some very hot pickups, probably as hot as the JB and much hotter than the '59.

It might be the voicing on the stock Wolfie's pickups. Some pickups with a different voicing seem hotter just because they hit the amps preamp harder than hotter ones. An example of this would be the CC and the C5. The C5 would theoretically be a bit hotter because of the Alnico V mag, but the CC seems hotter to me because of the huge mids and the way they hit my amp's front end.

Hotter than the 59 yeah, but no character at all. Like I said I'm comparing to an extremely sweet '89 PRS I've had for 10+ years, so I think I had a higher bar to meet tonewise. The JB is a great match for the wolfgang. Hotter or not, its brought out nice overtones and harmonics that were not there before. It cuts through the mix alot better too and I gig 40-50 weekends a year so thats an important thing to me.
