Im getting ready to paint my wolfgang red white and black stripes like my avatar. I've never tryed to paint a guitar so any help would be great. Iknow you guys know alot about this kind of stuff so give me some tips on what kind of paint, clear coat, tape, how many coats. Should i start by painting the whole body black and than taping the black strips and than shooting the body white taping the white stripes and than finnish with red. do i use primer before painting? HELP :smack: :yell: :smack: :yell:

thx Richard

Ohhh....

heh, i've never seen one striped, looks good but i'd just do white and black :P.

Re: EVH wolfgang paint

I would paint the white 1st. Reason being it's the lightest color and you
don't want the Red to bleed thru. The Blue 3M masking tape seems to
work good. Mask it off and then spray the Red ,Then add the black strips.
If you wanna be authentic? EVH used schwinn bicycle paint. :laugh2:

Re: EVH wolfgang paint

I played a Wolfgang at Guitar Center a while back that was painted just like EVH's Frankenstrat. It was a gold one that was painted over. It was painted rough, just like EVH's original, and supposedly painted by a a guy that has seen and handled Eddie's guitar. My point? It was not a professional job, paint was rough and ran in some spots, but it looked just like the real deal

Not yet, but I've been thinking about it. They claim that they can show you how to get a pro-quality finish with a spray can. Doubtful, but it might come in handy for something like this or some other wood projects.

Re: EVH wolfgang paint

Guitar Player just started a new series by Dan Erlewine on how to mod you guitar. The first installment was how to paint spray-can graphics

...and it's now posted on line.

Useful information, and the apprentice wielding the spray can is cute.

That's not a Wolfgang though. That's his EBMM model.
You're absolutely right. I had to look at it really close, but it is. Strange, though, that there's a 5150 amp sitting behind him.

Sweet. I wonder if she's single.

I've been thinking about trying something similar, so I'm definitely going to have to study these links and keep an eye on the magazine series.
