EVH Wolfgang Special or Washburn N24?

Re: EVH Wolfgang Special or Washburn N24?

What's nice is that it looks like the Special and Standard models are getting bigger frets, like the Peavey had.

Urgh, that's a big selling point for many people. Do you think they got rid of the SS frets so they could have the carved top and keep the price relative to what it is atm?

And I'm still gonna go with the MIJ one, hopefully it hasn't sold out by the time I've saved up for it!

Re: EVH Wolfgang Special or Washburn N24?

Yes, more than likely they got rid of the SS frets to keep the price down.

other things I've noticed:
-They got rid of the floyd locking stop tail option. It looks like they went to a regular nut/stop tail
-Only the USA model has a quarter sawn neck

Re: EVH Wolfgang Special or Washburn N24?

and I don't think you'll be able to find a brand new MIJ wolfie anymore. They've been out of production for a looooong time. If you want one, you'll more than likely have to get one used

Aw man, that's a big blow to the specials awesome specs :(

That's what I thought, but Guitarguitar are advertising their Wolfgang's as "made in Japan". Hmm could be a misprint, are the MIC ones really as bad as people say?

the only major thing that usually goes wrong with them is that when they are shipped from china to the US, the fret boards shrink due to the climate change, which causes the fret ends to stick out

Ah that's good to know, I've heard a lot of sharp fret horror stories ;)

The shrinking issue doesn't come from shipping.

It comes from retailers hanging the guitars on display with poor humidity control.

What they SHOULD do is put the instruments with their acoustics.

Neck wood shrinks and expands with ANY guitar. It's just particularly noticeable on the unfinished necks. If you buy one and case it when it's not in use, you will not encounter this issue. Hard cases act as a vacuum. This applies to any imported instrument.

Re: EVH Wolfgang Special or Washburn N24?

which is why i always put my guitars away when they aren't being played. Also to not put them on a stand and have them accidentally knocked over and damaged

Re: EVH Wolfgang Special or Washburn N24?

Not to sound creepy or anything but I felt up all the necks on the Wolfgang's and striped series in Guitarguitar and they all had absolutely no frets sticking out - not even slightly. That's reassuring.

Re: EVH Wolfgang Special or Washburn N24?

I mean to say they have sharp fret ends is a huge generality. Its not hard to sand down the ends anyways. Ive never played the stripped series guitars yet, but I've heard mixed reviews on them.
