evh wolfgang standard question?

Hi all -

So i am interested in picking up one of the newer evh wolfgang standards as i really like the neck and the forearm cut. My question is what pickups besides EVH wolfgangs fit in that route? I don't want to exchange mounts but i don't mind filing down the tabs if necessary? Any height restrictions?

thanks

Re: evh wolfgang standard question?

I have the EVH striped which has the same pickups and pickup route.

Any pickup with the short legs will fit as far as height goes.

The mounting legs on a Wolfgang pickup are rounded with 3 screw holes on each side. 2 screws are used on each leg to mount and stabilize the pickup from tilting. You'll want to try to use a pickup with the 3 holes on each leg- Dimarzio's usually only have 2- it won't stop you from mounting it, it just won't be as stable on each leg. Most modern Duncans I've seen have been using the 3 holes on each leg.

On the shape of the mounting leg- Dimarzios use a triangular tab which fits in the route with no problem. Duncans usually have the square leg, so you may have to file the mounting leg- or "foot" a little to make it fit.

Re: evh wolfgang standard question?

A short leg Duncan should fit just fine if you shave down the tabs.

DiMarzios are a little shorter, though, aren't they? You might need a spacer underneath to raise the pickup a little bit if you go DiMarzio.

Re: evh wolfgang standard question?

I decided to change pickups in 1 of my Peavey Wolfgang Specials and even though I used Dimarzios, the legs were still too long and were a pain to fit.

Take the advice above: get a short leg pickup!

Which DiMarzio did you use that had long legs?

Re: evh wolfgang standard question?

I ended up passing on it, too much work to get non-EVH pickups to fit LOL...

only of them now in the guitar
You could still shoot down into the cavity and show how long the legs are.

Now, DiMarzio Evolutions should look like this:

A long-leg baseplate humbucker will look like this, usually.
