EX Guitars or other suggestions

I have a buddy looking to buy an electric guitar for his sister. He does not have a pile of dough and I was thinking of suggesting the EX or Essex Tele copy from Rondo Music.

I have one that I replaced the electronics in and eventually the bridge and it plays really nice. Wondering if they are still decent guitars or if anyone else has another suitable suggestion.

think I will point him to one of these:

My "Blackguard" instincts say get the ash body with maple neck. The P90 is also worth having. Shame that its cover is not the same colour as the pickguard. Black on black would have looked better. Cream on off-white would have been more historically correct with the three-tone sunburst and rosewood fingerboard.

I dig the tobacco burst with the P-90. I'm sure they're solid guitars. For the money, you could probably swap pups at some point and really enjoy it. I have a friend who bought an SX "Hawk" Strat-type guitar and he loves it. It's his go-to when he doesn't want to gig with his expensive MIA Fenders. I do like the SX heastock. It's kind of a cross between a Kramer beak and a Suhr style.
