Example of best use of a specific effect

While Tom Morello and Dimebag got more notoriety for their use of it, I think Trey Anastasio's experimentiation with the Digitech Whammy on tracks off the Phish live CD "a live one" was much more creative and far-ranging.

I can't believe Unchained hasn't been mentioned! The flanger that pops in and out is dialed in perfectly for that. A great accent to the riff.
As for phaser, there's so many great examples but I always go back to the lead breaks on the first few Van Halen albums. "I'm The One" stands out pretty good.
Uni-Vibe - Bridge of Sighs. That's the first one that pops in my head. Can use a phaser to get in the ballpark but a vibe nails it.
Delay - The Edge pretty much mastered using delay with rhythms, IMO.

Best use of reverb when you remove the original sound (Yeah this si sick !) : Siouxsie and the Banshees "Happy House" on Kaleidoscope.
BTW John McGeoch probably did some of the best examples of use of Flanger (M117) and he used many different settings (as opposed to EHV : all at 11 or noon)

For a great example of Big Muff in soloing : Gilmour on the lenghtly "Dogs" on Animals

I thought Tom Morello was number one on the Whammy !
I should check this maybe...

For Walking on the Moon I do not hear a Flanger. I think it is a good example of Chorus.
(He may have used the chorus embedded in a Roland JC120. This is a stereo amp, quite effective with two mics.)

A flanger can create chorus sounds. Chorus is a chopped down, limited version of a flanger.

The main difference between a chorus and flanger is the milliseconds of delay. Everything else is pretty much the same. Later additions like detuning are enhancements to the original circuit.

Another great example of an effect was Jimi Hendrix' backwards solo on Are You Experienced. (Not the first, but the best example, IMHO.)

I always loved the dual delays from people like Lukather and how they got the fake reverb sounds because fo it.

I would be remiss not to mention Eddie and the Phaser / Flanger Stuff

I literally get excited anytime someone posts a Holdsworth clip on this forum.

I don't know where it's going to go, it's going to be incredible, and I won't be able to play it.

That was incredible -some of those guitar tones are ridiculous.

And that is a 'tame' Holdsworth song. His tone got better and more rich as years went by. He went from using high output pickups (like in this tune) to very low output ones (a double screw 59 neck pickup in the bridge).

The reverb on Still Loving You / Scoprions is pretty good.

Talk Box: Three Way Tie -

Aerosmith/Sweet Emotion
Frampton/Do You Feel
Scorpions/Zoo

You do know that the flanged part was a Fender Rhodes, right?
Still, it did sound killer with the flange.
