EXH MEL9 -- anyone got one yet?

Re: EXH MEL9 -- anyone got one yet?

I was hoping to hear Watcher of the Skies in this thread.
It's in EHX's official demo. :)

At home, I use M-Tron to record with, and live, I've used some 'Tron-esque patches on my guitar synth (a Roland XV-5050). I was afraid to dive straight into the Mel9, as I don't know if I could do anything that I couldn't on my current rig.
It can't; your rig is just fine, especially if you layer voices on the Roland. Adjusting the ADSR and adding some overdrive will basically give you a passable 'tron patch.

I still am holding out for a good '70s String Synth Pad' pedal. I get pretty close with programming sounds on a Fractal, though.
Yes, a Juno/ARP string pedal for guitar would be sweet!

Here's the opening to a new song I'm working on. Extra bonus points if you can nail the time signatures. :)

Logic amp sims, Arturia synths and drums, Mel 9. Bass is DI with CLA Bass.
This song will be my tribute to the great 70s band, Starcastle.

Feed your Roland XV-5050 the SRJV-80-04 Vintage Synth expansion board. Several decent Solina type presets in there.

Following from my comments earlier in this thread, I put on the Steve Hackett album, Genesis Revisited. This features Hackett, a bunch of well-known musicians plus an orchestra. Often, the lo-fi recorded sound of a stringed instrument ensemble sounds more evocative than the real thing.

Actually, there is a string pad on the stock XV-5050 I use all the time. I did some editing, and man, it is perfect.
I was listening to "Genesis Revisied' I & II yesterday. John Wetton sounds amazing on that.

That's the main reason I don't have the B9, C9, Key9 or Mel9 yet. I'm worried I won't be able to come close to the tones of the demo videos.

I love those YouTube demos, but I can't justify one of these when I own three keyboards. If I want organ or keyboard sound, I play it.

Haha, a broken, lop-sided calliope, possessed by Satan. When I turned off the random modulation it sounded like a normal one tooting along with me. Made me wanna play Popeye the Sailor.

I like the Mel-9 but it does have it's qurks. I bought mine from Sweetwater and had to go through 2 of them before I got one with out a serious volume drop. the 3rd one worked ok but you still dont get a boost like you do with the B9. The patches do vary in volume which I think would be a problem when playing live. I use it on the guitar out from my GR-55 in my pedal board and run the synth and pedal board thru a small Behringer mixer and then into my amp. Between the B9 and mel-9 I really get a amazing full sound with the GR-55. I think when you get to know the pedal it's an compliment to your sound.

Re: EXH MEL9 -- anyone got one yet?

I am a little apprehensive...I trigger the M-Tron with Guitar Synth now, and have spent some time with a real Mellotron. It would be a better value to have all of the EH synth/piano/organ replicas in one box, though.
