expected changes 59 with A4 and A3

Re: expected changes 59 with A4 and A3

Does belief prevents the sun from coming up every morning?

It doesn't.

Is that supposed to be objective evidence that supports your anecdotal musings?

It isn't.

May I ask you how you know it's still not "fully settled in", after such a long time has passed?

I assume you're using some kind of measuring device/s or process/es to being able to make the assessment, so I'm very excited to learn about something I fully admit having no knowledge about.

I'm all ears!
And no, I won't let it go. ;)

See, I'm not selling anthing, so if you're not buying, I couldn't care less if you paid me, pun intended. I wrote about it only because you asked.

If you care enough to know, try it for yoursef. You hear it, of you don't. I'm fine with it either way. ;)

+1

Off topic, but I really liked those early 50s p90s. They sounded extremely special. I've owned two of them and preferred them more than say '68 clear bobbins and late 50s p90s. The early ones fetch more cash because they have an amazing amount of depth and character. I assumed it was the wind, but if they did indeed use A3s instead of A5s, it makes sense why I loved those in the neck position.

The A3 and often A2 continued actually quite late. I do know there were a few that had extra thick A3 mags very early on. I don't have enough knowledge of known early examples to guess when these thick mags changed to the typical thickness still used now.
A pair of p90's I bought separately had 2 mags that could have been A3 or A2.....the saturated gauss reading was in between typical strength of either type for that period. But there was one definite A2 and one for-sure A3 in there too. These had no known date of manufacture.
The 56/57 set (pots date to Oct 56) has almost all A3, but some of the mags were ground only on one long end (meaning p90 era purchase or spec) and some were ground on both ends which is what you need for humbuckers which contact poles on both.
I would not be surprised to hear of a good number of the offical PAF's (as in those that had the sticker) had A3 mags. It is sure some of the pre sticker ones would have as they were often in lap steels in 56.

Well, maybe in his world it does. Or it just may someday if eventually his faith in the belief is strong enough.
On another note, why would anyone ever want to put an A3 in an Invader? And if they did, did they leave in the spacer magnets?

Re: expected changes 59 with A4 and A3

The irony is that I'm not the one positing anecdotal claims and expecting others to accept it on "faith in the belief" or offering argumentum ad verecundiam or other logical fallacies as a means of proof.

Nice way of turning it around and marginalizing me as the one operating on faith, though. ;)

Maybe Pepe should have just focused on whether AlNiCo III contains Co, instead of demanding an objective methodology to support an assertion that he has no problem making himself.

If one experiences a phenomenon, and records evidence of it, yet is unable to explain it using current scientific theory, does that mean that said phenomenon de facto doesn't exist except in the mind of the one experiencing it? What if others have experienced the same thing? Should not a more thorough perusal of said phenomenon be undertaken by those so inclined? Is this no the basis of scientific exploration?
Maybe it's just easier to poo poo it.
Marginalize?
The people that operate on faith in one form or another are in the majority last I checked.

Marginalize?
The insinuation was that I hold a world view that beliefs can prevent the sun from rising.

Please let me know when a more thorough perusal of how settling time affects a pickup's performance has been undertaken.

Yes.

Indeed. And likewise. I do know that it happens. Have my own theories as to why. Not likely to put the time and effort into aquiering the equipment necessary to do so myself.
And I didn't insinuate, I simply implied that it was possible. From that you made your own inference.

And you also gave yourself an out regarding the level of strength of my "faith in belief." Yeah, I don't know why I got defensive.

Maybe you don't know the first thing about how science is conducted and how scientific findings are accepted.

Maybe I don't. It has something to do with examining the liver of a sacrifice as I recall. Or is that augury? I do so get them confused.

There needs to be control over the variables not being studied; not the least of which being the fallibility auditory memory.

Yes. That's where a decent recording device can come in handy.

You'll need to account for the way things are played and have an independent double-blind evaluation of the recordings, among other things, though I am no means an expert at experimental design.

Re: expected changes 59 with A4 and A3

Lol, yes, if I were the one doing the study.
"By no means" indeed.

Re: expected changes 59 with A4 and A3

If I had any confidence that you understood that people can easily hear sounds that didn't actually occur, then I wouldn't have bothered.

On a positive note, I have faith (yes, I said it) that you're capable of having an open mind and are capable of coming to rational conclusions based on objective information that is presented to you.

I have a completely open mind to the idea that magnets require settling time, but I'm not going to believe it based merely on anecdotal experiences, no matter how diverse or frequent or whether they come from people who are highly respected as experts in the field of pickup design and/or fabrication.
