Extended range pain in the ass.

So i recently bought a agile 9 string guitar. The string were garbage. So i ordered a set of ernie ball 9-105. I got all of them installed and as i was tunning the high e the thing broke. So being desperate to play i tried to salvage the old one but it snapped to. What would the correct "standard" tuning be for a 9? I tuned the low to a c# and went from there in fourths i believe on up the kneck. Any suggestions?

What do you mean the "correct standard tuning" for a 9? Where did the string break at? the nut? the bridge?
What is the scale length of the guitar?

i tune by the fifth fret? if that makes sense. i tuned the low string to c# and went up the kneck from there.

for that scale lenght maybe something lighter will be elastic enough to don't snap or there is a sharp point on the nut, next time better tune from high to low, also, since the scale lenght and the number of frets you can pretty much tune the thing whole step down and you still have the same high register as a 22 frets guitar
